Oliver has worked in the lab for three years, and he’s been in love with detective Sam Nenci for almost every second of those three years. When Nenci’s boss pairs them up on a complicated case, he finally has a chance to get closer to the alpha of his dreams. When the dream and the reality fail to match up, will there be anything left for either of them to cling to?

Oliver Wesson is a hotshot analyst with the state police crime lab. He believes in two things in this world: Science, and saving himself for his alpha. Getting paired up on a case with detective Nenci is both a dream and a nightmare for him - he has a chance to show off his skills, but Nenci’s aversion to omegas in the field is well known. When he finds himself unable to resist his attraction for the older detective, his entire sense of self comes into question.

Sam Nenci is the official troll of the cold case squad. He’s had some rough experiences in life, and they’ve left him a little bitter. The one thing he’s not bitter about, though, is Oliver Wesson. He’s stayed away from the beautiful and brilliant omega, however, because he believes he’s too old for Oliver.

Sam soon finds that keeping a professional distance between them isn’t as easy as it sounds. Every time he thinks he has a chance to make things right with Oliver, he finds himself making a worse mess of things than he had before. Can Sam stop himself from destroying a relationship three years in the making?

Oliver is an omega crime lab analyst. Sam is an alpha cold case detective. The two have been interested in each other for two years but haven't acted on their desire. What happens when they are put together to solve a fifty year old building fire? I've enjoyed this and the previous books and the Never Too Late Series. Looking forward to number five. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the characters to life.

I'm too old to be a father...apparently not.

I love this story. From the beginning of this series I was hoping Sam and Oliver would get together. It took Sam getting over his fears and thinking Oliver could do better but Sam figured out he and Oliver could be happy together.
Narrator Liam Carlsen does a fabulous job.

Angst and more angst

Ok. So, I like this author and I love this series. The plots are good plots. However, listening to 8 hours of I'm not good enough and things that could have been solved with normal adult conversation is a little bit too frustrating for this reader. Every time I think, ok. The angst is over, there is more. I get that the characters are written as flawed but it's too much for a story this long. It made me want to skip to the end to see if there is a HEA. I'm not finished listening yet, but I'm at 5 hours and 12 mins into it and I still haven't gotten any fulfillment from this story. I'm going to finish it because I am simply too invested at this point. In all the other books in this series, the characters recognized their issues enough to actually communicate by this point in the story.

Even though I am a bit disappointed in this particular story, the author is good and I normally enjoy his work. So I will power through.

Oh for the love of Pete

This is a good story. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone. It is set in an omegaverse, so there is obvious hot alpha /omega interaction.
I loved the way the characters found their happy ending, but sometimes I thought that the reactions didn't quite match the problems, still that kept the story interesting.

I've been looking forward to this one for a while and was not disappointed. If you're in need of some good solid angst, this is your book.

I love Oliver’s attitude throughout this series. He just really loves Nenci and is finally able to get Nenci to realize he wants Oliver as much as Oliver wants him too. So so good!!!!!

Yay!! Oliver and Nenci!!

The story was great. As to be expected from Aiden Bates. The narration was also good.

and I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy it as much as I have expected. Mostly, because a last-moment realization that he, Sam Nancey, is a jerk, doesn't negate all that happened before. And the worst of it is that I loved Oliver and the fact that he finally had sent Sam away make me really happy, as did to know that he was ready to get on with his life. Having Oliver taking Sam back after all the abuse he put him through was a real disappointment. Sam change of mind wasn't believable, I'm sorry. I know that the series is 'Never too Late', but, some times, it really, really is.

And the case, which usually saves the book for me when the romance doesn't work, was glossed over by all the drama between... everybody, really.

Liam Carlsen did a great job with the narration.

It's Nency turn...

Father Figure contains more angst than other volumes in the series. I needed tissues ocassionally.

A lot of the story is from the perspective of an older alpha fighting his attraction to a younger omaga. Sometimes those protective instincts get in the way.

Alpha Sam works in the police department cold case unit. Omega Oliver works in the lab. They are both working on a 60 year old arson case that is proving to be quite a mystery.

While they work together well as colleagues, their romance stalls as Sam feels a younger alpha would be a better fit for Oliver.

There is a happily ever after, thank goodness, but our characters struggle to reach it. The bonus scene is sweet, and made me smile.

Narrator Liam Carlsen did an excellent job with the older, more mature voice of Alpha Sam. It's not always easy to get the roughening timbre of mid-life masculinity. Omega Oliver has a good, firm pitch, one we would expect of a twenty-something senior lab tech. An easy to follow story. If you're tenderhearted, have tissues handy!
