Story
They say love is like an explosion. But explosions haven't been so kind to Michael Wagner. Michael's given his life in service to the military. He had a plan - structure, discipline, focus. Thirty years in the Army before retirement. It only took one IED blast to change all of that, stealing his hearing and altering the course of his life forever. Joining some small-town support group? It's not going to change that. It's not going to give him back anything that he's lost...but maybe it's worth a shot, anyway.

At the height of WWII, five idealistic young Americans receive a mysterious letter from the OSS, asking them if they are willing to fight for their country. The men and women from very different backgrounds - a Texan athlete with German roots, an upper-crust son of a French mother and a wealthy businessman, a dirt-poor Midwestern fly fisherman, an orphaned fashion designer, and a ravishingly beautiful female fencer - all answer the call of duty, but each for a secret reason of his or her own. Story
After devoting 18 years of his life to the US Navy, Petty Officer First Class Shane Parker is struggling with the very real possibility of becoming unnecessary. If he doesn't make chief petty officer before he's 20 - and it doesn't seem likely that he will - he'll be retired from active service and placed on the Fleet Reserve list until his mooring lines are officially cut forever. While it would all be very honorable and ceremonial, he simply wasn't civilian material.

It's official: my step bro is the biggest himbo ever to himbo. He's a massive blond beefcake with a soft heart and an over-eager smile. The mere sight of him incites a shaking hot rage in me. He's everywhere. He's around me all the time. So sweet and gentle that it makes me feel wild. I see him and smell him everywhere. When I can't see him or smell him, I hear him. The wall between our bedrooms is paper thin. I can't help it—I hear what he does in his room when he thinks he's alone. I hear everything.

Sam reminds me of the horses we rescue. Scarred, skittish, and…strong. Beautiful. He’s a bit of a hat-stealer, and, truth be told, I’m a little leery of his chosen profession. The things he does in front of a camera...well, it makes me blush just thinkin' about it. But if that scar on his face is any indication, he could use somebody at his back. I aim to be that person. And yeah, some of my parts get confused by the fact that he’s all delicate and sparkly, but that’s not important. Even if the good hand lotion has somehow made it into the tack room.

Story
Tia Monroe was smart, sassy, and successful. Sure, she could get a little crazy at times - life around Tia was never boring - but that was part of her appeal. And while she didn't see herself as classically beautiful, she had no shortage of options in the boyfriend department. She just hadn't found one who held her interest. Until she laid eyes on Eric Larsson, and then it was lust at first sight. He packed the perfect mix of smoldering sexy and unapologetic cool into his blond-haired, blue-eyed, ridiculously hot six-foot-four frame.

Everett: There are a ton of reasons why falling for my tiny, adorkable best friend is a terrible idea - starting with the body in my trunk. I have other reasons - he still mourns his late husband. I’m way older, he’s a foot shorter, my tattoo shop is a front, he’s an assistant professor at UT. Still, I can’t help but think we’d be perfect for each other if I didn’t kill people (very, very bad people) for a living.

Loved it.
This is the first book in Soldiers Support Group with developed characters. This is a story about Andrew and Michael. Andrew is struggling with his life and support group after his father past. Michael is being discharged after losing hearing in one ear due to an IED. Both men are former military men and come together and find comfort in one another. This is a great story about love, friendship, patience, and understanding. The narration was very well done.

Michaels PTSD
WOW!!!! What a great audio.
I felt as if Michael's military discharge was being shared on a very real level. After a life long commitment to the military Michael's fear of the uncertain was written with complete understanding.
Andrew's loss of his father was also written with sad compassion.
The two characters played well off of each other and Andrew's understanding of the problems soldiers face was given well beyond his twenty one years.
I would recommend this book to all adults.

Great new to me series!
This is a new to me author, and I received a free copy of this audio book. That said, I really enjoyed the book. Military romances are not books that I tend to gravitate to, but I've read or listened to a number of them. This book is one of my favorite in this sub-genre. The characters are very likable but slightly flawed which makes me love them more. It's not too heavy with military lingo or culture. I recommend it.

Two former military men find their way to one another..
Falling For His Comrade by Jamie June is an mm romance about two former military men who come together and find comfort in one another. Andrew, who runs a military friendly support group, is coming to grip with losing his father not to long ago. Michael is having a difficult time now that he’s been discharged due to losing his hearing in one ear. He meets Andrew at G-MIL and a tiny spark ensues. Some time spent together and light flirting, they take their relationship to the next level and start dating. After some time, they decide to take a trip to Michael’s hometown. But while in Gatlinburg, an incident happens leaving Michael feeling exposed and not good company. Upon their return home, their relationship turns sour and Andrew can’t bear to go through what happened to his father, happen to Michael. It’s a battle of will, trust and love for Andrew and Michael.
I enjoyed Jamie’s story; it was light, minimal drama with a dash of real life situations to keep you interested. It was a good read and when I received this audiobook for an honest review, I couldn’t wait to start!
Lance Adams did a fair job narrating Andrew and Michael. I say this because I know that I’m very spoiled when it comes to narration. Although I love dual narration, when it comes to solo narration, I love hearing the narrator differentiate between the MCs and Lance fell a bit short on that area but he did a good job, so not a big complaint here. Happy listening all!

A sweet introduction
This is a good pretty low angst intro to a new series. There are a lot of side characters but it was easy to follow along. The story itself had a real feel to it. The narration was good making it a pretty quick and pleasant listen.

Soldier Support Group
Andrew has taken over meeting at the soldier support group his dad used to run before his death. He meets and falls for Michael who has started attending after learning he's being discharged after losing hearing in one ear due to an IED. Michael struggles with how to deal the leaving the military, and PTSD. Michael is resistant to seeking help, and Andrew has to decide how much he can take. This was a sweet story, with two likable characters that you are rooting for to find their HEA. The narrator was new to me, and a few times I had trouble differentiating the characters, but overall this was a good listen.

was a great read!
This was such a good book I almost couldn't put it down. will definitely reading the second book of the series and we will go from there. The only thing I feel like it needed to approve was having two different voices reading it. that would have made it a lot easier to follow it when it's jump back to back from characters and you are a busy person and trying to muti-task life! Just saying that it would have made the audible better in my opinion.

A PTSD STORY EVERYONE SHOULD READ
I loved this story as it delved deeply into the PTSD problems of the veterans in the Armed Forces. Not being able to cope with his medical discharge from the military, Michael is referred to G-Mil, a military support group for gays. He meets Andrew, a much younger man, and starts a relationship with him until his PTSD acts up. Michael is in denial until he finds out Andrew’s ghosts and worries. This story helped me figure out some of the ways others cope with their PTSD.
The narration could have been much better if more emotion was verbalized and voice changes were implemented.
I received this story for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review

So many good audiobooks... then there's this one
OVERALL — 2½
After reading an excellent read (5-stars) and then a fairly-good read (which I gave 4-stars) I was really hoping for another great read with "Falling for His Comrade". Instead, what I got, from the first chapter on, was only a fairly-good-at-best read, not being as good as my last Audible book. This one fell somewhere between fairly good and poor (although I haven't had a poor read in a year or two). This book seemed to be an introduction to a series in that it was apparently introducing all of the characters of future books, regardless of their relevance in this one, to the point that I was often, early on, getting confused over who the main characters of this one were (until I remembered, at the opening of the chapters, the POV character name given and so I knew Andrew and Michael were the MCs in this one).
The whole book is summed up in the Publisher's Summary, so if you read that you've pretty much read it all (including spoilers). As I write this review I've started another Audible book (Two Henrys), which is only 1½ hours long. I'm almost halfway into it and it has more story to it than this book... and hasn't yet even touched on what is mentioned in its Publisher's Summary. I can already tell it is an all-round 5-star read/listen.
PERFORMANCE — 3
Best listened to at Speed 1.5 (which, as a side benefit, will help you get through the book quicker).
The performance was average at best. There was a bit of variation between the voices of the characters, but not a whole lot. I would not rule out listening to something else by Lance Adams simply based on him being the reader of it. It might be good to see what he can do with better material to work with. In my opinion, his performance of "Falling for His Comrade" was likely an improvement on the whole than if I had simply read it and not listened to it. And so, if only for that reason, I rate his performance on this book 3-stars rather than 2½. I wouldn't have been able to make it through without him.
STORY — 2½
It quickly became apparent that there was no real story to "Falling for His Comrade", just introductions to characters over the first third of the book and their issues etc. Well, I should clarify, if you want to call it story. As far as story goes, there was a sentence that indicated the two MCs would quickly wind up in bed together with the subsequent chapters telling how that came about (by basically going back to the beginning—with the support meeting where they met. There's a lot of meeting and talking in this book but nothing really happening).
I got the impression that Jamie June is a new author who should have sought out advice and help from more experienced writers before publishing this one because there was so much help needed and advice that could have been given. First of all, half of the book could have gone to the cutting room floor. When I see a book that is six hours long I expect a lot of story to go with it, but this didn't have anything to justify 6 hours. By way of comparison, my most recent 5-star read ("A Prairie Dog's Love Song") was only 2 hours long but it had more story to it (and emotion!) than "Falling for His Comrade". A sign of a novice writer is their telling the reader what they just read/heard. I don't know whether that is a lack of confidence in their own writing ability or a lack of respect for the readers to figure it out what they just read, thinking they won't understand what is mean by a character's dialogue and so it must be explained, but regardless it had me often rolling my eyes.
I know that if the author had worked harder at editing this book, tightening it down to 3 hours instead of 6 (100 words rather than 212) it would have improved the whole without losing anything vital. Apparently you can't judge how much story is in a book based on its word count. There just wasn't a whole lot that would have been lost from this book by cutting half the words from it. And, perhaps, over that process of ruthless cutting, an idea of a story would have emerged that would have given the remaining whole a spark of life.
My rating scale:
1 = Junk! (dumpster worthy) // 2 = Poor // 3 = Good (average) // 4 = Great // 5 = Excellent! (award worthy)
