Publisher's summary

Family is all that matters when friend becomes foe, and the stakes are survival.

The world has become a dangerous place for Shane McDonald and his family since the solar storm wiped out the power grid. Tensions flare when it grows clear the dire situation will be prolonged and most are ill-prepared.

Even the friendly small town of his prepper mother-in-law has drawn unwanted attention as word gets around about sharing their supply stores. And strangers begin to infiltrate the once peaceful Georgia community.

All Shane can think about is where his wife and son ended up in all the chaos as the hours stretch into days since they last communicated. Jodi is far too trusting a soul, and her desire to help the downtrodden is a dangerous commodity among desperate and increasingly hostile citizens.

But Jodi isn’t without resources when push comes to shove. When her son and cancer-stricken brother come under attack, she finds the strength to do what’s necessary to ensure their safety and inadvertently draws the attention of a menacing gang.

Now, they must stay one step ahead of their pursuers in a race to reunite with family. Before all hell rains down on them.

Note: This novel contains violence.

Excellent Follow-up

Surviving the End is another marvelous series by Grace Hamilton. Fallen World was absolutely a fantastic listen and an excellent second installment. The premise is thrilling and engaging, the world-building is brilliantly done and realistic. The storyline follows the McDonald family, surviving the aftermath of a solar storm with collapsed power grids society.

The family members are diverse with well-defined personalities, their dynamics and interactions are authentic. Each character has depth, capacity for growth, and with each mistake, they learn to become better survivors. As they find their path through a hostile and devastating world, the danger level increases, and they are continuously faced with challenges. It's evident that the cloak of civility is gone and a thing of the past.

Chris Monteiro emulated the characters, animations, and intensity of the scenes very nicely, further immersing the listener. All around, this a well-written suspenseful post-apocalyptic series with phenomenal character development. Grace Hamilton is one of my favorite authors for the genre, and I highly recommend this series. I was given this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Enjoyed the entire book in less than 2 days!

After being left on a cliff hanger following the first book in the series, I was grateful to finally get my hands on the sequel. Between the first and this audiobook, I found this series to be entertaining and enjoyable. Storyline and character development were well done, as was the performance of the narrator. I'm looking forward to the third installment.

Post-Apocalyptic Family Reunion

'Fallen World' is Grace Hamilton's second installment of her post-CME family saga. This book has solidified the series as my favorite among Ms Hamilton's end-of-the-world tales that I've listened to/read. I was excited to receive a free review copy of this audiobook, at my request, and am happily posting this voluntary review.

The action of Book 2 begins immediately after the semi-cliffhanger of Book 1. The McDonald family is not completely reunited at Jodi's mother's house. Shane and Violet have arrived in time to help Beth escape her captors. Jodi, Mike and Owen are still making their way to Macon, where they deal with several problems of their own. Can they all make it to Beth's refuge?

In this book, Grace Hamilton has written an even more suspenseful and action-packed story than the first. Several scenes offer the nail-biting tension expected in a post-apocalyptic survival story. All of the main characters find themselves in dangerous situations.

As much as I love a good action-y post apocalypse, the characterization is even more interesting. Ms Hamilton writes a family dynamic that is believable. The characters show their naivete at first, but slowly come to the realization that civilization as they know it is gone and they must adjust accordingly. Jodi, Beth and Shane in particular come to this conclusion in individual ways. I'm also anxious to see how the characters' attempt at organizing their neighborhood will play out as the series goes along.

Once again narration by Chris Montero is great. I like the different character interpretations, especially considering the age range of the characters.

Highly recommended.

2nd in Series

I absolutely love Post-Apocalyptic books without zombies and military with good narration. Enjoyed this book due to the realistic characters of one family trying to get together at Grandma’s house, a prepper. The main characters are Shane and Jody McDonald, their children Owen, Violet and Kaylee, Jody’s mom Beth and brother Mike as well as the dogs Ruby and Bauer, there are a couple more such as Dr Yates and Sheriff James, likable ones and few not likable. There is a lot of action especially with Jody as she was kidnapped and Corbin and Shane runs into trouble shopping and when their town starts to get invaded. Cannot wait until next book comes on audible ASAP please. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU

Good continuation

This is a great continuation of the series. I enjoyed this more than the first book although both were pretty good. The characters are in for a wild ride and this is written in the style of two storylines merging at the perfect point. You can clearly tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. You just love to hate the good guys sometimes but overall the characters are very well developed and you learn to like them as the book progresses. I will warn you, this is the middle of a series and there is a cliffhanger ending but overall I was satisfied at how the book ended and also excited to see where it goes next. The performance was consistent with the first book and followed a very similar path. I enjoyed the character voices, both male and female were done very nicely. Looking forward to the series and hopefully the narrator continues alongside with the series. Bring on book 3! I was provided a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review from audiobook boom. This in no way affect my opinion of this work.

Better than the first one

Rarely do I enjoy the sequel more than the first book. In this case I did. Perhaps even enough to make it worthwhile skipping the first one and jumping in here. This story is more complete, but it would leave the actual event as an unknown.

Overall: if you read the first one, I strongly recommend this one!!

very good

Second book in the series & it builds well on the first. Series is set in small town America after a CME occurs. Well written & developed with the same God narration from book one.

can't wait.....

can't wait for these people to get the lead out of their asses and grow some brain cells and ovary up! they need to realize that the shot has hit the fan and all the "rules" have gone out the window! thinking that any form of government is going to swoop in and save them is just down right moronic, especially when it comes to bigger law enforcement agencies coming in and taking pike off their hands... just let go of what the world was before and do what NEEDS to be done to protect themselves and their families. and if taking out scumb bags that would obviously have no issue taking out a 14 yr blind girl is what needs to be done.... FRIGGIN DO IT! period.

Take it up a notch!

Early on we learn that Shane and Violet find their way back to mother-in-law’s house without much more effort. Jodi, Mike, and Owen were not so lucky. Through bad luck and carelessness, our trio gets carjacked. Jodi’s luck dries up. Mike and Owen spend the rest of the night looking for Jodi. Jodi turns out to be the courageous one of the family while Mike is pretty helpless and Shane is straight-laced and wimpy for the most part. The idiotic things people do always bug me in these types of stories. Either people deny the situation that they are in or they do really stupid things. I suppose if they didn’t it wouldn’t allow for much of a story. The carjackers supply plenty of material to fulfill the rest of the volume. Hopefully, Jodi, Mike, and Owen eventually get home safely.
