About this listen

Honor, Loyalty, Love

David Cruz is good at two things: war and training dogs. The ex-soldier's toughest case is Atlas, a Belgian Malinois whose handler died in combat. Nobody at Hope's Crossing kennel can break through the animal's grief. That is, until dog whisperer Evelyn Jones walks into the facility...and into Atlas' heart. David hates to admit that the curvy blonde's mesmerizing effect isn't limited to canines. But when Lyn's work with Atlas puts her in danger, David will do anything to protect her.

Lyn realizes that David's own battle scars make him uniquely qualified for his job as a trainer. Tough as nails yet gentle when it counts, he's gotten closer to Atlas than anyone else - and he's willing to put his hardwired suspicion aside to let her do the same. But someone desperate enough to kill doesn't want Lyn working with Atlas. Now only teamwork, trust, and courage can save two troubled hearts and the dog who loves them both....

Gute Hunde

Author not for me. 1st this is a romance series 2nd a mystery 3rd K-9. I wanted a stronger K-9 story. Male reader good with both make and female. Lady reader sounds like a greatly improved Sophie Eastlake.

Great Story

This is the first book I have purchased by this author and can say that I really enjoyed the story. I totally fell in love with Atlas, the canine hero in the story. There was intrigue, action and romance. I have never listened to a book with two narrators before and I was surprised when each narrator just took turns reading. I assumed that the female would read the female parts and the male would read the male parts, however that did not happen. It was difficult to relate to the characters when their voices kept changing! I would have preferred that only one narrator read the same character throughout the book. I am wondering if this is common with two narrators? If so, I will be sure to only purchase books with only one narrator in the future!

Loved it!!

This is a new author for me, I’m so glad I gave this book a try. Well written with excellent character development. I listen to this book almost nonstop! I like when there are 2 narrators female reading female characters and male reading male characters

It's a decent story

I'm half way through and really do like it so far, but... hearing Atlas referred to as a "big dog" literally every other sentence... well it kinda like nails on a chalk board. Maybe author has tiny dogs, so to her 75 lbs is a big dog. But for someone like me who breeds bullmastiffs, that is an average size dog at best. Yes, I'm well aware this sounds a little petty but I think authors have to keep their entire audience in mind when writing, and the fact that it emphasized sooo much throughout the book... and it's totally not true... well it was driving me crazy. But now that I've complained I can go back to enjoying the story of the "averaged sized dog" ;)

Action/Romance

This was a good book with non-stop actions. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Get this book! You won't regret it!

I have used audible for over 10 years and this is the first review I have ever left. There are lots of reviews with a story synopsis so I'm not going to bother with that. I'm going to tell you WHY these books are awesome. They are romances with people that are REAL people. It's not super soldier men who never do anything wrong or incredible capable women that don't really need anyone's help ever. It's got just just the right amount of realness for you to actually imagine you could be that character without tarnishing the romance.

Flawed Story

This just doesn't make sense. (Hard to explain the flaws without spoiling it but I will try) Lynn pulled a favor to get put in a position to work with Atlas. But shortly after arriving her room is searched and she is attacked twice. What info could she possibly have when the person in charge of this operation and the one who put her in the position to work with Atlas is the person who facilitated her access - she hadn't even been on the job more than a few hours. And the attackers threaten to do harm to her knowing who her step dad is? It just doesn't make sense. There are other serious flaws in the logic of this story. Second I didn't find Lynn's character all that likable. She comes off at times as a bitch, pushy, (e.g. the first meeting, when Atlas is taken), immature (e.g. listening at the door, pouting that David isn't telling her everything ...). This is first and foremost a romance story so it doesn't have to make sense and if you approach the book this way you won't be as disappointed. If you want suspense, action and a strong heroine this isn't the book for you. If you want a strong heroine and action try the Pike Logan series with Jennifer Cahill by Brad Taylor. I also didn't find Kristin's narration all that strong but it might have been the material she had to work with.

Finally a Hunky Guy with a Heart

So glad someone has written an entertaining romantic suspense featuring a smart, hunky guy who loves animals and appreciates a strong confident woman.

After experiencing the horrors of war, Cruz wanted a peaceful life training dogs with his friends. Enter Lyn, who was hired by the Army to assist in rehabilitating one of their military dogs (Atlas) who was traumatized by loosing his handler.

While Cruz and Lyn had professional differences in the beginning, Cruz always treated her with gentleness, respect and admiration. Cruz was not an alpha jerk or sexual bully; he had seen enough suffering to last a lifetime.

Likewise Lyn was kind, confident and spunky - not a submissive bimbo - who managed to use keep her cool even when confronted by unexpected violence. This was my first novel by Piper J. Drake but it won't be my last.

not what I expected

I was looking forward to a dog book. talking about military dog training, perhaps a little war stories, and about three quarters of the book was that. I really wasn't into all the sex that came up in the last third of the book. it just wasn't what I wanted to read. I wanted a dog book. not graphic sex
