About this listen

Join Logos Bible Study as we continue the story of redemption. As told by Dr. Bill Creasy, Israel falls into the cruel bondage of slavery in Egypt. And it is no accident: God had said to Abraham 500 years earlier that his descendants would be “enslaved and mistreated four hundred years”.

Follow Dr. Creasy as we meet Moses, one of the Bible’s great characters; witness amazing miracles; review the Exodus and the Ten Commandments; and discuss the building of the Tabernacle - a physical structure that enables sinful man to gain access to an infinitely holy God.

Editorial reviews

Take out your bible and learn all about Exodus, alongside Dr. Bill Creasy. With a PhD in English literature and substantial experience teaching, Dr. Creasy deeply probes this seminal work. While having a few good laughs, listeners will enjoy learning about the Ten Commandments, Moses' birth and life, and the building of the Tabernacle. Occasionally, some background noise distracts, but usually the sounds of the audience add to the immediacy of the lecture. Dr. Creasy looks at key themes like evil, redemption, and faith, with a warm, inquisitive tone. Listeners can certainly trust him to be both engaging and investigatory.

Enthralling Reading of Exodus

Dr. Creasy's reading of Exodus is enthralling! The narrative is awakened when he draws upon ancient culture and customs to explain what's happening in Exodus. He uncovers hidden gems which tie into the new covenant. The hidden gems help you understand both the old covenant and new covenant with greater clarity. He also brings in modern day examples to drive the points home.
A few side notes: it is a seminar, so he is speaking to a large group. There is some laughter (enjoyable), coughing, and cell phone. He references pictures and maps which we can't see. When he does, I stop the playback and Google the images (no biggie). Brace yourself because he does curse to show you examples of cursing. Despite these items, his reading is fantastic, so don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Another great Dr Creasy teaching

Dr. Creasys expertise and travel experiences all make the bible come alive. Too bad we cannot also get the class materials he passed out to his students

Very interesring and digestible

It was a very good verse-by-verse trip through the book of Exodus presented in an easy to listen to style. I was able to agree with most of his presentations. As with all things, you need to think carefully about the ideas to see if they are consistent with the rest of the Bible teachings, and in most cases they were. In general I was pleased and a bit surprised at his accuracy and some of the things he pointed out. I am now listening to his presentation of Leveticus and it us also very well done (as was Genesis).

Excellent Bible Study

I also posted this on Amazon.com.

Dr. Creasy covers each book verse-by-verse, providing context to the material by explaining other passages in the Bible that may relate to a passage under study, with descriptions of corresponding historical events and the geography and their relationship to the passage, as well as anecdotes from his travels or study. I find it extremely helpful to study the Bible in context with geography and history.

As explained in the opening lesson on Genesis, this study starts with Genesis in the Old Testament, then moves to Matthew in the New Testament, then Exodus and Leviticus in the Old Testament, then back to Mark in the New Testament, and so on. Dr. Creasy does this because 1) if covered in weekly segments, as done in his class, it would be in year 5 before he got to Matthew, and 2) to help show the relationship between Old Testament and New Testament.

Three minor complaints with the Exodus study: 1) included in one of the lessons were a few announcements that were relevant only to the study group being taught the lesson, not other listeners, and 2) it was easy to hear cell phones ringing in the background, which is understandable with this kind of recording, but it was annoying, and 3) Dr. Creasy hastened through the final chapters that covered construction of the Tabernacle; he may cover this later, but I would have liked some greater detail here.

This is the third in the Logos Bible Study series, preceded by Matthew and followed by Leviticus.
