This audiobook had all the bada** elements of a great action movie. There were falsified diamonds, high speed chases, murders, kidnapping, and a ton of other adventures packed into this book.

Katerina is a fantastically strong character. When she first takes the case to study the possible fraud at Liberty, she doesn’t think her discovery will land her in such danger. However, once she learns the truth, she refuses to give up, going so far as to risk implicating herself and her Uncle Harry in the fraud just to keep the money out of the hands of the wrong people.

I absolutely adored her strength though I have to admit that a few parts of the book had me laughing. For example, when Katerina decided to steal one of the CEO’s trash and got into a scuffle with a raccoon, I was giggling furiously.

All in all, this is a fantastically sound thriller with lots going on and fantastic characters. I will definitely be continuing on in this series.

My mistake but I listened to the second book first without realizing it so this one threw me a bit to start with. Once sorted though, it was, like the others, and easy listen. Lots going on with characters that are not always people you would bother with in real life, but not a bad listen at all.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. Diamonds are a girl's best friend but for Katerina Carter, they're a girl's worst enemy. One simple case of embezzlement involving a diamond company, proves to be much more than the forensic account counted on. Action, suspense and intrigue with a touch of humour, makes this a book you just don't want to turn off. You'll find yourself listening much longer then you intended. Looking forward to book two.

Wow...I was not only pleasantly surprised by this story, but I was blown away! I’m married to a CPA and do quite a bit of financial reporting at my job so I was prepared for a bit of boredom. What I got instead was an infuriating young forensic accountant who, through her dogged pursuit, was able to solve a crime that involved an Argentinian arms/illegal diamond dealer, and a Canadian gang. Even after several attempts on her life, Kat never gave up. Lots of twists and turns and Kat’s side kicks, Uncle Harry and Jace, are great in their own right. Great book and will definitely be delving into the rest of the series.

This novel had plenty of action on suspense. Surprises around every corner keep you reading until the end.

Great suspense novel

Narrator Petrea Burchard always comes through with a complete cast of characters, male and female, to put forth an engaging play. In this she is assisted by author Colleen Cross' clever tale of terrorism, diamond smuggling, banking, murder, and fraud. I've read several of the author's paranormal tales (crime-solving witches) which were cozies; RCMP involvement (why, yes, this is a Canadian story) introduces more of a procedural bent to this thriller. But it is the antics of our hapless heroine, an accomplished accountant on the edge of bankruptcy, which provide counterpoint to the dastardly deeds of the villains. While of a more serious bent, flashes of humor cannot be suppressed and there is much to be loved as Kat conquers all.

good start to a series

I am not as demanding for first books in the series. I look for the ideas and to see if they're good or not. I give books the benefit of the doubt even if they're not amazing. But if they are good i feel like i discovered gold because its the beginning of something good

A great listen that had me staying up late to finish! I loved the main character- very human & relatable (with numerous quirky side characters). Diving into book 2 to see what Kat Carter is up to next.

I enjoyed this audiobook, and found the focus on forensic accounting very interesting. The main character was relatable in that she had some fairly significant flaws, which resulted in a story that didn’t seem predetermined. I also liked the mining industry focus, coupled with some significant organized crime influence. I’d recommend this story.

Narration was good, audio was clear. I liked the way that she portrayed the main character, including her inner dialogue. I’ll look for other projects that she’s been involved in.

I never knew how exciting being a forensic accountant can be. I just thought it was number crunching and computer work. Colleen Cross certainly knows how to make her Katerina kick butt. I really enjoy her secondary characters too. I love Uncle Harry who hangs out doing the filing to Verna with dementia who thinks she's on vacation in Prague and gives Kat gardening assignments on her old home. Petrea Burchard does such great grizzled character voices. I just wish her main character had more strength in her voice.
