About this listen

Robert B. Parker and Robert Crais fans will enjoy Edgar Award nominee Timothy Hallinan's audiobooks featuring overeducated private eye Simeon Grist. In this third title in the cult series, Grist takes a case that leads him to the phantom neighborhoods of Los Angeles' lost children.

Missing 13-year-old Aimee Sorrell ran all the way from Kansas to be a star. But Aimee's trail soon leads Simeon to the city morgue, the first stop on a perilous journey to find out what happens to America's lost children when they go looking for love in all the wrong places.

Dark noir underbelly of late 80s/90s LA

I enjoyed the author’s trademark humour and characterization, but it’s a grim world with a lot of thoroughly unpleasant people and collateral damage. His books often deal within tough reality in a slightly surreal way, but it’s not a world in which I want to dwell. Hard-bitten dissolute PI does have a heart and deals out a lot of karmic retribution.
