Acerca de esta escucha

The first definitive biography of the ultimate American rock band

How did a pair of little Dutch boys trained in classical music grow up to become the nucleus of the most popular heavy metal band of all time? What's the secret behind Eddie Van Halen's incredible fast and furious guitar solos? What makes David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar so wacky? And, are all those stories about groupies, booze bashes, and contract riders true? The naked truth is laid bare in Everybody Wants Some - the real-life story of a rock 'n' roll fantasy come true.

But painful. 1985-2007. 22 years of trying in vain to recapture the relative effortlessness that made VH great. Sad. But man what a great band. I understand the compulsion to try and try again, that’s not tne kind of thing that you just walk away from. Fans love you when you’re on top and love to also love to witness your demise. The entertainment business is rarely a happy and healthy choice. RIP Eddie what a force.

Very well done.

being a Van Halen fan since Van Halen 2 I really enjoyed listening to this audible book

Quite enjoyable

This was one of those rare audiobooks that I started and finished in a short amount of time. It's well written, and has the same narrator as another Van Halen audiobook, "Runnin' with the Devil", where I also enjoyed his narration. It moves at a brisk pace and doesn't stay in any one area too long.

For the downsides, it's out-of-date, having been written before the release of "A Different Kind of Truth". At one point, the author mentions that Sammy Hagar "shunned the temptations of the road" (or something to that effect) which is absolutely untrue, as Hagar himself attests to in his autobiography. While mentioning soldering guitar components, the narrator pronounces it "soldier" (whether it was written this way or is the narrator's fault is unsure). The song "Humans Being" is referenced twice, the first time referred to as "Human Being". And there are some mispronunciations from the otherwise excellent narrator.

I enjoyed this one and recommend it, even considering the above downsides.

Well Written, But Could Use Some Fact Checking

A complete history of a band that still could, but won't. the last album and failed tour after this book was written gave us all a sudden hello and good bye. Farewell Van Halen. The ride was good.

Sad story

this was a great follow-up to Van Halen rising and read by Sammy Hagar. highly recommended

I’ve listened to three different Van Halen biographies. The other two are focused mostly on the early years up through 1984. This one covers the Early albums better than the other biographies, and really adds a lot to the full story of what happened to the van Halen after 1984 up to 2007. I do give it two thumbs up and a recommendation for a detail in that area of the story. Lots of great quotes and interesting bits.

Good details of albums and post-1984 career

Good listen but nothing really new here. The narrator flubbed a few words and didnt seem overly knowlegeable abot the topic.. ex... solder not soldier. Rollmops not romance.

good listen...

This book skips around and repeats itself a lot. It also ends in 2008. Since Eddie's not here to defend himself and wouldn't care to anyway this is probably as close to a neutral portrait of the group up to that time. It left me wanting more. Since I just bought it from Audible I was expecting the info to be current not 14 years old. There were some great moments in it though.

story is ok, if not a continuity train wreck
