Publisher's summary

Graham Hancock has spent decades researching and writing some of the most ambitious and successful nonfiction investigations into ancient civilizations and wisdom. Entangled uses all of Hancock's skills and knowledge to propel a fantasy adventure like nothing else preceding it. This is a time-slip novel, alternating between present-day California, Brazil, and prehistoric Spain, with two teenage female protagonists who must come together to avert an incredibly bloodthirsty takeover of the human race.

Entangled is the first book in a trilogy relating the story of an unrelentingly evil master magician named Sulpa who is on the loose and determined to destroy humanity. Leoni, a troubled teen from modern-day Los Angeles, and Ria, a young woman who lives in Stone Age Spain, meet in a parallel dimension outside the flow of time to stop Sulpa's spectacular, deadly materialization in the modern world. Riding a growing wave of interest in parallel dimensions and imaginary worlds (The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Golden Compass are recent Hollywood examples), Entangled will have immediate appeal to readers and listeners of Philip Pullman, Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, and Kate Mosse, among others.

But Entangled has the added merit of being grounded in solid anthropological and scientific research. Hancock calls on his years of research into cutting-edge issues, including the "Neanderthal enigma", the nature of consciousness, the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics, parallel realms, time travel, and near-death and out-of-body experiences.

Action-Adventure YA-level but over-the-top violent

Graham Hancock can write exciting fiction. I skipped War God, suspecting that there would be a lot of human sacrifice in the book and I still remember details of such a book I read decades ago from a fiction book I checked out from a library in 7th grade. Horrific.

I see the influence of Dr. Rick Straussman's book DMT which was heavily referred to in Graham Hancock's book Supernatural, and I can only suppose that the intricate OBE travels beyond our space and time were influenced by Graham Hancock's own years of experience with marijuana and ayahuasca.

The plot/storyline is intricate and exciting, but there is a lack of depth and the subtle touches that can be so delightful to a reader/listener. The horror of rape and torture and abuse is so heavy-handed that it serves to desensitize, which may be the opposite effect the author states he desired in a foreword before the actual story starts. And, it is disturbing that the book is written and narrated at Young Adult level, but has so much rape and torture and cruelty at the same time.

I tried to muscle through the unpleasantness but did have to use the Fast-Forward skip option on my iPod a bit to get back to the story and skip whatever cruelty Graham Hancock wanted to expose my mind to.

No more fiction from Graham Hancock for me. I really enjoyed his books Fingerprint of the Gods, Magicians of the Gods, and Supernatural . . . but the fiction is beyond dark.

The narrator has a bright and intelligent voice and enthusiastically reads the story out loud to the listener, but does not "do" character voices that some other narrators can.

Could have been shorter!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

If they are into the subject matter yes I would. However if you are into Fantasy/Sci-Fi I am not sure I would.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It all came together ok at the end. However it does not really give you closure on much as if I remember correctly this was meant to be a trilogy.

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam and Graham Hancock - introduction ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Khristine was really the only thing that kept me going with this book to be honest. She kept it interesting however her guy voices could use some work.

Did Entangled inspire you to do anything?

Not really!

Any additional comments?

Overall I would not say this book was bad. However it was dragged out in my opinion. Now I may have been a bit bias to get this over with as I have a new Bobiverse book to read but it felt very slow. Had Graham possibly condensed this into under 10 hours I think it would have been better for the story. The characters were very interesting and to be honest the book is pretty messed up. Takes on some very grim and dirty topics but I think he handled it well. It is not a bad book. However in my situation and this being way outside my usual listening genres I enjoyed it. In conclusion I think if it had been condensed I would have enjoyed this much more and it would have been easier to recommend. Take my review with a grain of salt obviously.

Nonstop entertainment is what makes this story hard to put down. A doubleshot of heroine adventure, fantasy, metaphysics and myth will fuse your headphones to your ears.

INTENSE YES, BUT GREAT BOOK, STORY & MEANING

What did you love best about Entangled?

This book is intense, I agree, but it was supposed to be. And he does warn you of that from the beginning. And really without all of that the book would not be as good or prove the real point of showing the real evil in this world, as he states, it is our own past and present and humans themselves that have already done these things and do them now, sad but true, it is nothing new. There is also so much more to this book, the real meanings under this and was written with a purpose and smartly done in my opinion. Giving a story like he did, entangled between the 2 lives, but also being able to show so much more beyond a normal story would take you. I would recommend this book to anyone that is ready for it, meaning, I know there are many maybe not ready to read something like this just yet, but I hope more will be able to once they read and develop a better understanding of things and life and are open enough to really benefit from it. This is now for certain one of my favorite books in my collection and I am waiting eagerly for the next book to follow this for I do admit I was bummed a little at the end, but that just proves how good it was for me, I wanted to keep hearing more and I am waiting for the next one to keep going with this story!!

Concern about content

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book was good overall and had an interesting story plot. It ended with an obvious sequel planned. What I did not like was the prevalent and repeated story plot around the rape of women. It was not needed and was disturbing and results in my not planning on listening to the sequel when it is offered even though the story was engaging otherwise. It is overall very violent so if you are not interested in that, you may want to avoid this book.

Be forewarned- a lot of sexual violence.

I loved this book, although it should be stated more clearly that it is not just violent and gory but that it also contains a proliferate number of specifically sexually violent scenes. In fact, sexual violence and rape is a main theme of this story and readers should be emotionally prepared for that.
Once you get passed that, what an amazing journey! Very strong characters and really interesting take on the neanderthal's role in history. The narrator's reading was good but some of the voice acting was a little irritating to be honest. Nonetheless, I can't wait to hear the sequel.
