Publisher's summary

Secrets and Truth both have a price.

Pellucid Rose discovered her parentage only to find that her homeland, the Empire of Glass, is dying. But a messenger from the Ancient One appears and informs her that all is not lost. The catch? Only she can stop Glass’ destruction by rebalancing the First Ring, the source of all Truth. No pressure, but she has no idea where the ring is, let alone how to fix it.

Making matters worse, despite securing a promise from the emperor of Glass that he will suspend all hostilities toward Secrets, secrets continue leaking, exacerbating an already tense situation that threatens the very existence of the Empire of Secrets. What’s new? Only Pell can stop it.

With the fates of Glass and Secrets resting on her shoulders, what sacrifices will Pell be forced to make to save the universe?

Empire of Darkness is the fourth and final book in the enthralling God of Secrets paranormal fantasy series. Fans of Sarah J. Maas, K. F. Breene, and Laura Thalassa will adore USA Today best-selling author L. R. W. Lee’s vulnerable, intimate, and gritty tale of fierce mythical creatures, magical adventures, and unique ancient myth retellings.

An Implicitly Trustworthy Read

I’ve officially found my favorite book/series of the year. My eyes are leaking as I look back over the passages that I’ve highlighted in my Kindle notes. I went to bed barely breathing through my stuffed-up nose; hardly seeing out my stinging, marshmallow-puffed eyes. Yep. I was stuffed and puffed good.

Biblically epic, this story has the happiest of endings, and that’s the gospel truth. I’ve always been a sucker for the sacrificial love trope, the repentant villainous figures, and the tests that result in greater testaments, and Empire of Darkness delivers all the blessed goods. L. R. W. Lee has repackaged the greatest love story ever told into a beautifully wrapped gift for her readers.

I am SO glad I opened this one up.

This series is light on profanity and heavy on character development. It’s creatively steamy, sweetly flirty, engineered intelligently, huggable, and altogether lovely. When – YES, WHEN – you unwrap this present for yourself, don’t forget the audio narration. Sarah Kisko’s voice adds power to its magic, breath to its beings, and greater emotion to its heart. Either way, though, The God of Secrets series is completely divine.

HEAVENLY QUOTES:

The winged beauty locks gazes with me. “You have always been beloved by the Ancient One. Take comfort and be confident in this.”

Beloved… by the Ancient One? I bring a hand over my mouth and inhale sharply. The winged horse nickers like its laughing at me. Maybe it is. I swallow. The Ancient One loves me? The thought won’t compute. My mate squeezes my hand as I blow out a breath…

Thoughts flood my mind as we head home. The Ancient One loves me. Me. I still can’t fathom it. But his messenger told me to trust him… implicitly.

Another good one

Makes you crave more. I'm glad there was a fourth book. I got this copy through the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Captivating!

Pellucid Rose started out working on ancient sites and she's made brilliant archaeological discoveries. She's unleashed a sphinx. She's met the God of Secrets and accompanied him to discover how secrets are sealed. She's been kidnapped and visited the Empire of Glass where she discovered heartbreaking secrets about her past. As she learns more, she has even more questions. One thing she knows is that she and Harpoc have to find a way to seal secrets for good so no one is ever hurt again. When the Ancient One presents himself to Harpoc and Pell, she understands that it's up to her to try to restore the original ring, even if it means her death. The story becomes fraught with angst and tension. I had no idea if she could come back to life and my tears fell when it appeared that she was dead. The ending is remarkable in its ability to bring all the characters together and wrap up their stories. It's obvious that Pell is the catalyst of good and clarity in the world. With Harpoc at her side, there is no end to the positive changes they can bring to the Empires with hopes that there will never, again, be a secret that needs to be sealed. This is an exceptional series and I only wish there were at least one more book! A wonderful epilogue is available through the author's website and it puts an exclamation point on the story.
Once again, Sarah Kisko does a wonderful job with the narration. Her dynamic voice is clear and emotive and she uses just the right intonation and cadence to bring the characters to life.

the final book in this series

I was on pins and needles through the end... found myself crying and it takes a lot for an author to pull me in enough that's I'm so invested in characters to care this deeply as to what happens to them. the narrator is perfect and embodies these characters in a way that makes them real. I read the epilogue, but admit that I want more of Pell and Harpoc... I want to know what their eternity is like, how things continue between Secrets and Glass, how the Core continue... I'm not ready for it to be over!

A wonderful conclusion for this adventure

This is the final book of the series and was a satisfying end to Pell’s story. It’s an engaging series and the narrator does a fantastic job bringing each of the characters to life.

A Very Excellent Series!

This was a Great Series and I immensely enjoyed it. The Narrator did a wonderful job with the characters voices and the entire storyline. This is a Epic story well worth the time to listen or read, and the fourth and final book brought it all together.

Perfect Ending

This was the perfect ending to the series. Not the ending I envision, but it tied up everything nicely. I do wish the epilogue was included and not something I had to hunt down as I couldn’t find it. Either way I’d recommend this series to anyone looking for an engaging page tuner.
