Emma Waterston is determined, headstrong, and comes from a lifestyle where class structure determines one's associations. Left destitute after the death of her mother, she takes a job at a textile factory. When a fire destroys her place of employment, leaving her penniless again, she makes a desperate decision and answers an ad for a mail order bride from a wealthy Kentucky horse breeder.
Sam Hawley is content with his life as a horse trainer on an affluent Kentucky estate. His primary focus has always been on the horses. He views their owners as rich people with nothing to do but flaunt their money. Loyalty to his mentor is the only thing that keeps him rooted to one place. When he meets the bride-to-be of the man he detests the most, his life is about to change.
Too late, Emma discovers the ad she answered was too good to be true. Her future husband is not what she was led to believe and a horrific experience leaves her no choice but to face the kind of life she's been trying to escape. Kentucky was supposed to promise a return to her life of wealth. What she finds instead will redefine her definition of being rich.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to "Emma, Bride of Kentucky."
Although Emma was raised as Massachusetts elite, where class distinctions determine ones associations, she was forced to live as the lower class when she was left penniless after her mother's death and father's desertion. She and 3 other ladies shared a small apartment while working at a textile factory. When the factory burned down they were all left destitute. With few options open to them, they all became mail order brides.
Emma was the last hold out, but she had no money and had little left to sell, so she answered a letter from a wealthy horse breeder. It was her husband-to-be's mother who had placed the ad, and sent Emma traveling money, unknown to her son. To make matters worse the son was not even there when she arrived and she was picked up by their horse trainer, who just happened to be the most handsome man Emma had ever seen. Emma, however, could not forget her upbringing and treated Sam as beneath her, now that she would have wealth once again.
The story held my attention from beginning to end. The narrator can make or break a good story and Cody Roberts made a good story great.
I recommend Emma, Bride of Kentucky!
Excellent Entertainment!

If you could sum up Emma - Bride of Kentucky in three words, what would they be?
In the beginning: Snobbish, spoiled and stubborn. After getting to really know her: Compassionate, loving and faithful. She's a very believable character, written by a wonderful author and narrated beautifully by Cody Roberts.Any additional comments?
I loved this audio book. Loved the story and the hero, Sam right away. Emma had to grow on me, but she grabbed my heart as I listened to her story and the way she was raised. There are lots of twists and turns in this book and some suspenseful moments as the story was wonderfully narrated by Cody Roberts. Romance, light suspense and humor, a perfect combination. Two wonderful secondary characters stand out who I really liked, Gus and Millie, who added the humor to keep things light. All in all, a wonderful mail-order bride audio book that I enjoyed. I am never disappointed in any book Peggy L. Henderson writes and Cody Roberts narrates. A clean romance. JudyEEmma: Bride Of Kentucky!

I was pleasantly surprised that Sam Hawley in this story is related to Trace Hawley from In His Eyes (Blemished Brides #1). Finishing this story made me want to reread the Blemished Brides series!

If you could sum up Emma - Bride of Kentucky in three words, what would they be?
finding real happinessWho was your favorite character and why?
Emma I did not like her at first, she was bitter over her past and I felt she was too into what wealth in the past had given her, very stuck up, typical rich kid with a grudge . As the story progressed she learned about love and that being rich does not give one love and happiness. What about Cody Roberts’s performance did you like?
I really really loved listening to Cody's performance. Allot of distinction between the different characters and allot of emotion in the reading. The best I have heard so farWas there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several moments but when Emma stood up and told the truth about her assault to her then future mother in law I felt she had finally found herself-to stand up for herself and what was rightAny additional comments?
I have read all of Peggy's books now and have just started listening to some of them. Her stories are always well told and executed with very developed characters that by the end I feel like I really know them as friends.Loved the Story

Cody is a good narrator with a smooth voice and puts all he can into his narration and voices. This story is a great tale and I recommend it highly as a great story to have in your collection.
Emma gives up old rich life for Sam. Good Choice.

The narrator wasn't bad but he did seem to drag out the sentences, was a little to fast without giving pause when needed or speeding up when it was requested. It took me a little time to get into the way he read it but all in all it wasn't bad. There were no repeating of words, no volume changes, and no background noise. It was a clear audio. He did give emotion but was a little lacking in that. Some of his character voices I didn't care for others were great.
My favorite of this series so far
