About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne—and her real-life husband and high school sweetheart, Anthony LeDonne—comes a new holiday rom-com that is sure to warm even the coldest heart.

Katherine, an ambitious New York City attorney, gets diagnosed with a concussion and must be monitored for forty-eight hours to make sure it doesn’t get worse. Unfortunately, she forgot to update her emergency contact, so the person they call is her ex-husband, Tom. Unable to be left alone, Katherine reluctantly agrees to travel to Chicago with him for the holidays. But thanks to a blizzard, what should have been a quick plane ride turns into an antagonistic overnight misadventure that stirs up old feelings even as Tom prepares to propose to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve.

A delightful meet-cute between The Proposal and Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Emergency Contact is perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sophie Kinsella.

Funny! Really loved the banter.

Very fun light read as I always laugh when listening to Lauren Layne books, I love the humor in them. This story took a bit too long to get to the point & needed a hit better ending but all in all I really liked it.

Wonderful story

The banter in this story is wonderful. It's sometimes laugh out loud funny. Towards the end, I had so many feelings. The narration was perfect by Tim Paige and Brianna Cohen.

Christmas romance

Loved it. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the part where a line is repeated and it was missed in production as well as a voice change of Katherine at the end of the book. Otherwise it was a perfect warm Christmas unexpected romance.

Pretty good story and narration overall

There is nothing new or exciting about the story told here, but it is a great pick me up or holiday feel good book. Definitely recommend

The snarky humor.

I love the humor in this book. The witty barbs and comments. I would have given it five stars, but it was a bit too predictable for my preference. Not a lot of surprises.

Not a Fan

There was no appeal for me I did listen all the way thru but not sure why. It was grating the way both main characters acted. I cannot see how there was any love between them.

A Phenomenally Fun Holiday Read with Heart

This audio had me CACKLING! If you love a second chance, once-married story line & LOTS of banter, this is the read for you!

Emergency Contact is the story of a “grinchy” Katherine, who finds herself in the hospital after an accident leaves her concussed & under the care of her ex-husband, Tom. You see, Tom was never officially removed as her emergency contact. With no one else to watch her, Tom begrudgingly brings her home for Christmas. Together these two endure all the misfortunes of holiday travel while rediscovering what made them fall in love in the first place.

The banter in this was on another level! These two former exes went no holds barred on each other’s flaws during their travel together but, as the barbs were traded, they also unraveled a new understanding of each other and what went wrong. The audio narration was perfect for his humorous and healing read!

Romantic and Good Banter

Emergency Contact has no steam, but it really did not need it. The romance was in the small moments as Tom and Katherine reconnect after Katherine got into an accident and needed Tom to be with her. He needed to get home from New York to Chicago, but Katherine, who is addicted to her phone, kept making them delayed. This forced them to communicate what happened 4 years ago, and to realize that neither really moved on from each other despite that Tom was supposed to be proposing to another woman on Christmas Eve. The banter was from playfully hostile to sweet, and as Tom and Katherine reconnected, they fought to help each other give what each other wanted most in the world, even if it cost the other. Emergency Contact has heart, holiday vibes, a beautiful second chance romance, great banter, but most of all, it was romantic with an opposite attract. This story definitely qualifies as relationship in trouble as well. It’s a gorgeously written story! Highly recommend for a holiday romance!
