Elvis Duran’s nationally syndicated radio program, Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, is America’s most listened-to Top 40 morning show and one of the 10 most listened-to programs in all of radio, heard live by nearly 10 million people every morning. But his success didn’t happen overnight. Elvis spent years navigating the wild world of radio as a DJ for hire, working (and partying) in markets around the country before taking over the morning shift at the legendary Z100 in 1996. Over the last 20 years, he has become one of New York City’s signature voices.

Gary Tillery presents a coherent view of Elvis' thoughts through such anecdotes and other recorded facts. We learn, for instance, that Elvis read thousands of books on religion; that his crisis over making mindless movies like Girl Happy led him to writers such as Gurdjieff, Krishnamurti, and Helena Blavatsky; and that, while driving in Arizona, an epiphany inspired him to learn Hindu practice. Elvis came to believe that the Christ shines in everyone and that God wanted him to use his light to uplift people.

Editorial reviews
June Juanico - with the assistance of the sweetly superior voice of Bernadette Flaggler - brings to a light the young, vibrant, and not-yet-iconic Elvis Presley with Elvis in the Twilight of Memeory. Originally meeting the ordinary young man named Elvis at age 17, June shares her memories of being the first girlfriend of not-yet-crowned King of Rock and Roll. Also learn about the family life that Elvis shared with his mother, Gladys. Listening to this is like a small time-machine to an earlier age of Americana, told with boundlessly tender love.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Story
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Story
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

The tragic story of Susan Powell and her murdered boys, Charlie and Braden, is the only case that rivals the Jon Benet Ramsey saga in the annals of true crime. When the pretty, blonde Utah mother went missing in December of 2009 the media was swept up in the story - with lenses and microphones trained on Susan's husband, Josh. He said he had no idea what happened to his young wife, and that he and the boys had been camping in the middle of a snowstorm.

Story
Elvis Presley is a giant figure in American popular culture, a man whose talent and fame were matched only by his later excesses and tragic end. A godlike entity in the history of rock and roll, this twentieth-century icon with a dazzling voice blended gospel and rhythm and blues with country to create a completely new kind of music and new way of expressing male sexuality, which blew the doors off a staid and repressed 1950s America. In Being Elvis, veteran rock journalist Ray Connolly takes a fresh look at the career of the world's most loved singer.

Lucky Girl - To be favored by Elvis
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
June Juanico certainly should have felt very special to have been so close to Elvis. I could almost feel exactly how she felt when describing those fun and intimate times she had with the King. What an experience - what memories! I enjoyed listening to the audiobook except each time the narrator, Bernadette Flaggler, pronounced "Biloxi". That made me cringe. Narrators should learn how the locals pronounce names before trying to narrate a book. Otherwise, she did a good job, and I would recommend the book. June detailed her experiences well.
Who was your favorite character and why?
June. She included lots of details.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No
Any additional comments?
All in all, a good and enjoyable listen, except for some of the pronunciation. Narrator did not know how the people in the area pronounce "Biloxi". Being from the area, I found it hard to listen each time she said it.

The Best Elvis Book I’ve Ever Read.
I’ve read a tone of books about Elvis. Just like most serious fans. But this has topped them all. I just wish people wouldn’t try to sell the hard copies online for $500+! You should let others read it at its regular price. However, the narrator of this book is fantastic! And really captured all of the emotions. I highly recommend this book to all Elvis fans and those who are just getting into the world of Elvis. June Juanico, you are amazing!

Memories of life
I love her authenticity. She was a wise, wonderful woman who was funny, loving and yet I love her feistiness in which she didn’t allow people to walk all over her. She was true to herself & we can all be drawn into situations in which we may get stuck because of our emotions. She was strong enough & wise enough to see the signs and was able to walk away to something special & wonderful through the years. As her mom said to her at the start” don’t let anyone do this to you June, make sure no one does this to you!”. Referring to her own husband walking out on her daughter & herself. June did not do that and her way of decision making was both mature & pragmatic. God bless her. I heard she’s not feeling well & is in a facility to help her. I pray for strength she’s always had to carry her through this now regardless of the outcome. I’m rooting for her always. 💕🕺🏼🕺🏼❤️
