Ceea ce a debutat ca o „poveste de succes“ a destalinizării a continuat printr-un șir nesfârșit de diversiuni al căror singur adevăr a fost luarea în stăpânire a țării și a oamenilor ei de către familia Ceaușescu. Propulsarea Elenei Ceaușescu la vârful partidului și al statului, deși aparent a fost inspirată din mișcarea generală de emancipare politică a femeilor, a fost și ea o altă diversiune, care a adăugat tragicului comunism românesc o notă suplimentară de absurd. Spre deosebire de celelalte diversiuni, cum era cea a rusofobiei sau cea a independenței, pe care Ceaușescu le putea întrebuința după bunul-plac în funcție de moment, diversiunea Elena Ceaușescu s-a dovedit a fi cea mai solidă, punându-și cu adevărat amprenta asupra regimului, ba chiar asupra perioadei care i-a urmat. Contrar mantrelor propagandei oficiale, Elena Ceaușescu a fost o autentică adversară a femeilor. Nici una dintre inițiativele sale nu a urmărit îmbunătățirea reală a situației femeilor.
Prezența Elenei Ceaușescu la vârful țării, considerată de propagandă simbol al emancipării femeii în România socialistă, nu a atenuat, ba chiar a acutizat, perspectiva birocratică și atitudinea represivă a regimului față de maternitate și natalitate. Documentele oficiale nu au păstrat nici o urmă a unei intervenții sau propuneri făcute de Elena Ceaușescu în care să fi cerut îmbunătățirea situației femeii-muncitoare, femeii-intelectual, nici măcar a femeii-mamă. Dimpotrivă, ea a cerut întotdeauna economii la sânge, făcându-se că nu observă evoluțiile îngrijorătoare din domeniul sănătății publice. Elena Ceaușescu nu a fost simbolul emancipării economice sau politice a femeii din România, fie ea și comunistă, ci doar dovada supremă a deciziei conștiente a lui Nicolae Ceaușescu de a transforma țara într-o dictatură stalinistă bazată pe ideea de clan.
COSMIN POPA este istoric, cercetător la Institutul de Istorie Nicolae Iorga al Academiei Române, specializat în istoria Uniunii Sovietice și a comunismului european. A urmat studii universitare la București și la Moscova și e doctor al Universității București. Alte lucrări: Nașterea Imperiului (2002), Între tentația imperiului și alianța strategică, URSS și Europa Centrală și de Est (2012), Intelectualii lui Ceaușescu, Academia de Științe Sociale și Politice (2018) și peste 80 de studii publicate în diverse reviste științifice.
Scrierea istoriei comunismului românesc trebuie să treacă de fațada evidențelor, care nu devin astfel mai puțin adevărate, fiind datoare să pătrundă esența regimului care a controlat România aproape jumătate de secol și mai ales să înțeleagă urmările sale. Fie că ne place sau nu să admitem, „omul nou”, atât în varianta stalinistă a lui Dej, cât mai ales în cea asiatică a lui Ceaușescu, a fost un „succes“ nesperat până și de inițiatorii săi. Moravurile publice ale multora dintre compatrioții noștri, învățământul, lumea academică și, de ce nu, felul în care suntem administrați astăzi își au cele mai puternice resorturi în reformele „Epocii de Aur“.
Evoluția dictaturii lui Nicolae Ceaușescu într-un duumvirat, aflat prin forma sa și prin manifestări dincolo și de limitele civilității comuniste europene, prin asocierea Elenei Ceaușescu la putere, nu doar că a transformat criza structurală a comunismului românesc într-o catastrofă națională, dar mai cu seamă a imprimat românilor tipare mentale și reflexe de care ne ciocnim contondent și astăzi. Încercarea celor doi de a extrage forțat România din Europa și de a o reașeza pe tipare asiatice, în numele unei viziuni de țară absurde, dar mai ales pentru a face posibilă instaurarea unei dinastii de familie comuniste, a fost aproape o reușită de proporții istorice, stopată doar de implozia imperiului sovietic, cel care a făcut-o posibilă.
