About this listen

Jude and Lyle's newlywed life is shattered when a vicious attack leaves Lyle infected with a disease that transforms him into a violent and often incomprehensible person. With no cure for the "zombie" virus in sight, the young husbands begin to face the last months they have together before Lyle loses himself completely. Fond remembrances of young love meet the challenges of navigating a partner's terminal illness in this bittersweet tale that explores both how we fall in love and how we say good-bye when the time comes far too soon.

The story told was quite good, and I enjoyed it. Short with an emotional end.

The story itself was good, the pacing and style of jumping forward and back to progress the story and to fill in information was enjoyable. Unfortunately the narrators made it difficult for me to stay interested. Very odd inflections, grating voicing choices for characters, and dialogue tone that didn’t match with the scene or situation.

Beautiful and heart wrenching

I sobbed. A beautiful and brutally honest love story that will get to you more than you think it will. I figured knowing what would happen reading the description that I could prepare myself for the heartbreak. I was wrong.

Underrated

This book is rarely talked about but it is one of the most beautiful yet heartbreaking love stories I have ever heard and it deserves to be much more well known. Although, this story is an allegory for loving someone through a debilitating and terminal illness, in specific points it stays true to the horror genre. Anyone who has loved someone through the downs that life can bring will relate to this story. This book is everything I love about horror. Horror that is used to provide a glimpse into difficult topics that we are so often afraid to discuss within society. This book will likely make it into my shortlist of all time favorites.

Changed my brain chemistry

This novella has taught me the preciousness and fragility of love and the quality it brings to our lives. I’ve always felt strongly about my partner, but this has made me reconsider it in so many ways I have never thought of. This was a beautiful exploration of self love, expressing love, and following through until the very end.

Good

Sad but sweet. At first I didn’t like it. I thought more zombies! Less love story. It’s all about their live together from meeting to the end and it bounces back and forth in time a lot. But in the end it worked, I came to know them and value the backstory as much as the zombie time or the after time. It was a memorable and well written book.

beautifully written, heart breaking

this was a unique take on a zombie break out mixed with a love story. it felt both realistic and natural for the development of the two main characters. beautiful ending that broke my heart

also lol'd at the kingdom hearts reference.

overall enjoyed it, but didn't quite feel like the ending paid off based on the characters.

A Real Look at Love

I love the story, I love the real life depiction of how complicated love can be. I didn't like one of the narrators as he gives everyone a super high and monotone voice. That did kind of take me out of it, to be honest. Overall it's a beautiful story that you really appreciate after letting it marinate for a few days and reflect on it.

A milder zombie story

A quick afternoon listen. I felt this book wasn’t nearly as bleak or depressing as I had seen other reviews make it out to be. You go into the booking knowing it was an inevitable ending but not much buildup or a successful conclusion. This book will not stick with me. A sad love story yes, but only if you’re into that kind of thing. The zombie parts were great, everything else in my opinion was just another love story. I will probably forget about this book soon

Perfection!

No need to recap what the book is about. Not too long. Every word is meaningful, with no unnecessary fluff!! I loved it.
