Publisher's summary

Another excellent story line

What made the experience of listening to Elefant the most enjoyable?

A twisted and unexpected storyline as usual.

What did you like best about this story?

The nearly unrealistic factor of the "pink elephant" that was yet again well researched by the author.

What about Gert Heidenreich’s performance did you like?

Yes

An enjoyable, realistic book, engaging characters

My first Martin Suter book, I look forward to reading more. The story takes place in contemporary Zürich and includes a alcoholic homeless man, whom we meet at first, living in a small flood water created cave along the Limmat; a circus manager who tries to keep his circus financially viable by renting his elephants as foster mothers to a company researching genetic manipulation in elephants; the veterinarian at the circus who decides to hide the pregnancy of one of the elephants; a veterinarian who volunteers at at free clinic for the care of animals belonging to Zürich's homeless, and the Burmese caretaker of the circus' elephants. This is not a thriller, nor a politically correct anti-GM novel, the "bad guys" are not card board characters that the author sets up only to knock down. In fact, one feels it might break out into a "feel good" book at any moment, but it never becomes too saccharine: there is realistic character development, the characters make real mistakes and react in a true to type manner (except for perhaps the Burmese caretaker who is a bit inscrutable). For German language learners - be aware that the book is available in English too, to help you out.
