Publisher's summary

Gods are real, but you might not be…

January Day is a detective on the verge of self-destruction, ready to give up on ever finding her brother’s killers. But when she finally unearths a lead and tracks them down, she uncovers a truth that changes everything. Her reality is only one of innumerable others designed by architects. Not only this, but it is a failure and nominated for deletion.

If she wants to save herself, her reality, and the lives of countless others in an ever-expanding multiverse, she must first believe she, her reality, and those who live in it deserve to be saved at all.

Designed with elements of cyberpunk and dystopian fiction, Electronic Gods promises to blow your mind and put it back together in an entirely new way.

dystopian meets detective noir wrapped in Matrix

What an amazing book! Electronic Gods is like dystopian meets detective noir wrapped up in The Matrix!

January has a dark past. All she wants is to find out the truth about what happened to her brother. But sometimes the truth is more dangerous than the lies we are told. I really don't want to give anything away. There are so many layers to this book, and it would be really easy to accidentally give away an important plot twist. Suffice it to say, this is one of my top 5 must-read books of this year.

I was not a huge fan of the audio narrator's breathy voice. It didn't feel like it fit the tone of the book or January, but I didn't let that influance the pure joy I experienced while I took this journey with January Day.

I was given a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review, and honestly I am so glad I accepted this book! You have to read/listen to it.

Intriguing and Fast Paced

Of course there is no way you are going to start this book and not see the parallels to The Matrix: cross it with Jessica Jones, the TV series, and the film Inception and you are in for a ride.

Saying that though, the plot is original, not just much of the same... There have been a couple of authors that I follow that have gone into this simulation theory and it does start putting a few niggly thoughts into your head.

I read this book really quickly and wanted to listen to it on audible as well, it is always an entertaining experience for a series that you really enjoy. This first book sets the pace for book 2 - and I cannot wait to listen to it - even knowing what already happens.

Haunting, devastating, hope-filled

This one is a wild ride. It starts off as what feels like a crime thriller, then throws in fantastical cyber punk elements, then takes a detour on what seems like a total non-sequitur (seriously, I was listening and checked to make sure I didn't accidentally switch books when I hit a certain section) and that isn't even the biggest of the surprises in the story. It does all come together to form a surprisingly cohesive and satisfying story.

This reminded me of a two sentence horror story that I read, but fleshed out in ways even my worst nightmares didn't reach. Lots of action, but this is primarily a character driven plot with sometimes surprising motivations and sometimes heartbreaking moments. Strong characters, good twist on the premise, and I appreciated the limitations placed on the characters and rules given to the multiverse. It is a sprawling concept that could easily spiral out of control, but Rain did an excellent job with it.

Overall I liked the narrator, she was easy to listen to and read clearly. This is book one in the Imagined Realities book, and while it does have a complete plot arc, it is also setting a larger stage for what is to come. You will want to follow up with Electronic Angels to see how the story progresses. This is an honest and voluntary review of an ARC

If reality is an illusion... then what is real?

Received an audio copy from the author to review, this is an honest review. Narrated by Emily Mount- who does a truly fantastic job of bringing Seth Rain's cyberpunk/ dystopian adventure to life that makes the haunting story all the more memorable.

For detective January Day... all she wants is answers about her brother's death and she believes these "Coders" know something about it. What she and her fellow cops encounter is an underground world where those that can manipulate virtual realities can have an affect the real world... unleashing a tsunami of destruction. Beautifully mysterious and filled subtly shaded characters you'll love to follow through their journey. Seth Rain's newest series starts with a bang. Highly recommended.

Great story

Excellent opening book of a new series. Great story and characters especially January. The narrator was just okay for me but not horrible. Still a great listening experience.
