About this listen

Gamers are celebrities. Superstars. Idols to the masses. Only a few ever make it out of Piper's Mill, most toil their lives away in the small town just dreaming of a better life. Liam thought he had a comfortable life all worked out when it winds up wrenched away from him. Drawn into other's schemes to hack the game and steal some spotlight he never expects to find himself playing in a game nobody has ever heard of. He never expects to find himself deep in a dungeon at level one with no gear and barely any skills. He certainly would never anticipate suddenly being tied to forces that promise not just to reshape his life, but the world outside the game. Time to level up.

Underwhelming

The performance really pulled me out of the story. This is a litrpg however, outside of a couple references, there was no interaction in the real world. They make mention of it occasionally but the entire book takes place inside the game. It reads like someone recorded a Saturday night DnD session, nothing of note and the characters are all forgettable.

I should have heeded the other reviews.

Hopefully the author gets better and learns from this one.

this is a good overall short story

during a working shift I choose to listen to this in the background as I slung beer cases.

it is not an amazing in depth story, but for those of us who live rpg in books and games, we do not need anything extra to get caught up in extras.
over all it is on the positive side

also, I can see this as a dnd 1 or 2 shot campaign session

Short good book. Kept my attention the whole time.

The narrator is ok. Not as wide a range of voices I am accustomed to. Clear voice and well read though. The book was good, very interesting and took a little bit of a different turn for a lit rpg book while keeping true to the genre.

Decent Short Read

This is an okay book if you are into Litrpg. If not look into Ready Player One or The Gam3

Back story was weak but the "rpg" elements were okay. Some sexuality that seemed overboard in one chapter but in no way an erotica.

It took me awhile to get used to the narrator. It was painfully obvious he was just reading a book, but you get used to it or maybe he got into the groove later on.

So far pretty good

The story started slow, however, the end of the book seemed to bring it all together. It's worth a listen if you are a litrpg junky.

good for a start

keep in mind that while I gave the book a low rating it's still a decent start. this is the first book in Skyler grants series and it shows. that's not bad it just means that the talent needs to be honed. and if that's something you cannot abide then I would not recommend this book. his dungeon Core Series, the research lab is phenomenal and shows that this is an author to keep out for to keep an eye on.

A fun read for tabletop and digital rpgers alike

This book was worth the time. Some interesting ideas I'll use in my campaign. I also liked the goddess choice used.

Can't wait for the next one. Main character is intriguing enough to keep reading if not always sympathetic.

Dungeon Crawl at it's best

Would you consider the audio edition of Dungeon Crawl to be better than the print version?

No, the print version stat sections were easier to digest then the audio version, but I loved being able to go back and forth while commuting.

What did you like best about this story?

The main character is trying to help, and yet can't stop being who he is. Love it. And it's such an accurate version of a level grind.

Have you listened to any of Doug Tisdale Jr.’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A few times burst out laughing. A lot of edge of my seat reading to see what happened.

Any additional comments?

The mystery behind the virtual world is what will keep me coming back for more.
