About this listen

A haunting journey into the worlds of voodoo and druidry.

Joni had always been fascinated by the history of her family’s old antebellum plantation. Her ancestor’s journals were filled with stories, many involving two slave girls, the older of whom was deeply involved in the “red magic” of the Bokors.

When Messalina returns from the grave on a quest of vengeance, Joni must confront the wickedness of her own family’s past, while also embracing a truth even more ancient—that she is descended from a line of Druids. Joni is the only one who stands between Messalina and her insidious plans.

Druidess takes listeners on a thrilling journey into the world of Celtic and Native American mythology, voodoo, and an eternal realm where all magic—good and evil alike—has its origins. Druidess is filled with shocking plot twists, compelling characters, and features a strong female hero. Druidess introduces the Gates of Eden (GoE) universe. It is a prequel to both the Druid Legacy (Elijah Wadsworth) and the Voodoo Legacy (Annabelle Mulledy). Monroe’s Druidess is sure to keep listeners enthralled from start to finish.

Fascinating Prequel

This was an interesting introduction to the "Gates Of Eden" universe and a prequel to two different series. I was entertained by Theophilus Monroe's humorous and irreverent way of presenting his story. I enjoyed the characters and liked seeing characters, from other series of the author, being part of this new material. Kelley Hazen's narration was fun and entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Phenomenal Narration!

I began Monroe's Gates of Eden books out of order, with Voodoo Academy. After completing that series, I decided to go back to the beginning. Druidess is the introduction to a world of magic of different cultures, magic that can be good or evil. The book can be read as a standalone but there are little nuggets that hint at awesome stories ahead.

Kelley Hazen was the new-to-me narrator. I was amazed at such an absolutely fantastic performance. I've rarely heard a narrator with such an expressive voice and she performs all types of different voices extremely well.

I'm eager to continue on with this series, both to read more stories in the excellent world Theophilus Monroe has created and to hear more of Kelley Hazen's narration.

Joni, finally

One of the things I love about Mr. Monroe's series is how they are all interwoven in the same universe. I've been wanting to read Joni's story after being introduced to her in Annabelle's Voodoo series. I have a feeling I need to listen to the Wyrmrider series to get even more. I can't wait. Alas, you can't miss with this author and narrator combo.

interesting storyline.

I had problems finishing this story although it was very interesting. I had a large problem with the narrator. She was constantly over eager even when reading a slower part of the story. And although the premise of the story was very interesting, it was also bit less than fully fleshed out. I am hoping the rest will get better. As I said, the story is interesting, so I will continue the series just to see where it goes.

Enjoyable read

I love seeing what happened with Joni prior to the Druid series. The story was engaging and enjoyable. I’d love to know more about the Choctaw characters. The narrator was good, and I really enjoyed her different voices.

Great Read

Druidess (The Wadsworth Legacy ) was a great read by Theophilus Monroe. Joni had always been fascinated by the history of her family’s old, antebellum plantation. Her ancestor’s journals were filled with stories. Many of the stories involved two slave girls, the oldest was deeply involved in the “red magic” of the Bokors. Messalina returns from the grave on a quest of vengeance which leads Joni to confront the wickedness of her family’s past. She must also embrace the fact that she is descended from a line of Druids. Joni is the only person standing between Messalina and her insidious plans. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

Great!

Another great one! I’m excited to see where this series goes, it was a quick listen, but very entertaining. The narrator kept me engaged and I appreciate that in all of this author’s narrator choices.

Monroe's universe is awesome

I first listened to another series by this author - The Voodoo Academy - and I was amazed at the attention to detail for the universe he created. I am easily won over by world-building, so his books seem perfect for me. This book is a prequel to the Voodoo Academy series and it was really nice to actually get to know the details of what happened beforehand. I liked the characters, I liked the action, overall I recommend this book.

However... the narrator was... weird. Brownie points for trying to do different voices for each character, that is an effort I applaud. But some voices sounded very unnatural. There is a male character, for example, that is along the main character for most of the action, and his voice sounds... robotic, I would describe it. I was very turned off by that. Other than this detail, the book is definitely worth it.

Another well-written story from a good author

Druidess (The Wadsworth Legacy ), my nineteenth read from author Theophilus Monroe and the first book of a new series. Another well-written & enjoyable read/listen. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. 5-hours 16-minute/167 pages in length. Kelley Hazen, who narrated his Gates of Eden series, again adds to the enjoyment of this book. I look forward to my next read from this author and in this series. fantastic!

This prequel fills in a lot of missing little details and helps explain some things from the main story. Theo is an amazing writer who is great at what he does. I highly recommend this book to help you understand the main story line or to give you an idea as to what the rest of his books are like.
