About this listen

You don't become a hero for the money.

The money's nice, sure, but you become a hero because something inside compels you, drives you to it. Defending people from monsters simply doesn't pay well enough to make it a good career move.

As for hunting dragons goes... well, the money is usually good, but the job really bites. Burnout is all too common.

Come along as a group of five professional heroes go into the lair of a dragon.

Who will win?

Spoiler: The dragon.

But it turns out killing a hero sometimes does nothing more than make him even more determined. Sometimes, heroes are never more dangerous than when they're dead!

I enjoyed this audio book immensely. I looked forward to the long drive home to find out what happened next. The little surprises of humor mixed in gave a different flavor than what I am used to in this genre.

Unexpected delight

I stopped listening. It kind of hurt my ears. I tried to give it a chance, but nope.

Did not grab me.

Eric calls it Shard world the... first time his younger self visits(the beginning of this book). After time travel and setting up his alter ego in Tauta he researched on his void station for 200 years then goes back to Tauta to find the once hollow planet has shattered into pieces forming Shard world. The implications that he keeps affecting his own past over and over again is interesting. most of this book is the story of the after effects of the poeple and ghosts he met on his first short visit. it was fun and I have a feeling we may see more of Shard world both future and past. I'm hoping to see how Tauta becomes shards in the next Phone story

This is future Tauta right?

It was interesting that the VA was perfectly fine at writing a lively character with Eric and onara among others, but the main cast of characters had such a consistent and deliberate affect all the time that I found it fairly difficult to stay focused .

And to be fair Garon Whited does write concentrated and focused characters, but i would say I've enjoyed phoebe and nightlord more, those are 10/10 homeruns imo.

unfortunately very flat delivery

The story itself is fine, the dialogue is far too modern for the setting and feels more like eric/halar talking than folks from a fantasy/midevil setting. The story is fun and wraps up Eric’s little adventure to the land nicely. The narrator on the other hand could have done a lot better. It felt like all the characters were softly yelling at eachother the entire time. Too much emphasis on words at the wrong times. It got a little grating by the end. I think he’s got potential but needs to calm down and find a more even voice.
I think it’s worth a listen for the story, it just doesn’t feel up to the same standards as the other books in the nightlord universe.

A fine extension of halar’s adventures

The story seemed very formula. Predictable and not in keeping with the night lord series left a lot to be desired in terms of what does this have to do with the Lord of light. Also, super disappointed that you changed the narrator. I hope the next book by Garin, will have the tone in the voice of Eric, Vlad,…

Disappointed

This book was great. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I was looking for something a little different but still fantasy and this popped up as a suggestion. It was great. It was funny and well written. The adventure and surprises along the way was good. I was a little confused by one part but the rest was great

Funny adventurous and different

Absolutely love the Nightlord Series, this will be one of 4 out of 380 books and 9 years I've been listening on audible that will be returned

same author as nightlord
