About this listen

In order to embrace her true nature, a young Dragon Rider must accept who she is - and where she came from.

Lila knows her people’s way of life is dying, but trying to get Raiders to become Dragon Mercenaries is no easy task. Although the world around them is changing, many among the Raiders still cling to the old ways of piracy. When a desperate message arrives from the West Witches, Lila and her new friend, the eccentric, unseasoned magician Danu, must risk a mission to the island of Sebol to learn what they can of the new danger they face, a threat that menaces all the Western Isles.

To face it, Lila must leave her Raider past behind and become the leader Danu knows she was born to be. Knowing the crown of Roskilde holds the key to her destiny, and perhaps the key to defeating the deadly threat that is upon them, Lila must seize it. But to do so, Raiders and dragons will have to learn to trust each other - and Lila - as she leads the charge. Can Lila let go of fear and doubt and face the future, or will the only life she’s known be destroyed?

Incredibly Fun Dragon Series

Wow! I read the first one in this series and I was thrilled to be able to review the second one as well. I love the fantasy genre and especially stories about dragons. This book was beautifully written and just simply a lot of fun to listen to, in part due to a fantastic narration job. It's action-packed and just as hard to put down as the first book. I highly recommend this series and I will be getting my teens started on these as well.

Entertaining

Book two picks up the speed and excitement that we came to appreciate in book one. I enjoyed the pace that Richardson set, as the story came together with the perfect amount of detail and movement. Lots of action and excitement. I would absolutely recommend this series, but definitely start with book 1. Dragon Crown

An interesting second book in the Sea Dragons Trilogy. Lila is learning more about her heritage and history and is coming into the role she was born to take.

Ava Richardson has created a fantastic world with Dragons and Magic. I love the creative storyline.

I had no technical problems with the narration. The only small issue I had was that sometimes I had a difficult time figuring out who was speaking. The character voices were very similar.

Great dragon/ magic story

This is the ninth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I will continue to listen to anything she writes. I have enjoyed everything I have listened to until this point. One of those books was the first of this Sea Dragons Trilogy. I was glad to have the opportunity to review this book as well.
In this book, Lila comes more into her own as a dragon rider and leader. Danu becomes stronger and learns more of what magic he is capable of. They are facing a new and inconceivable foe. There are some witches that have joined with Lila and Danu to help fight this threat, but not all the witches are on their side. The Raiders and other people get swept up in the fight and each have to make their own decision whether to help and follow Lila or not.
This book ends with a conclusion to this fight, but this is not the end of the war. There is much to lead us into the next book.

This is the third book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Jean Ann Douglass ). The same thing happened in this book as did the last… I was many chapters in before I realized it was flipping between Lila’s and Danu’s perspective. Unfortunately the voices she gives to each of them are so similar they’re almost indistinguishable. (Crux’s voice is also the same). It is therefore necessary to listen to the chapter title so you do not have to decipher whose perspective you are listening to.
She does have different voices for other characters. Her style is quite immersive and therefore I tend to forget I am being read to and can easily picture the story in my mind (once I’ve gotten my head around whether it’s Lila or Danu’s section of the story).

There are no explicit sex scenes, or swearing, there is fighting but not excessively described violence .
