Publisher's summary

Take charge of your health, and stop turning over your life to our confusing and intimidating health-care system - before it's too late.

Dr. Erika Schwartz believes that today's patient is but a leaf blowing in the wind of groupthink protocols, corrupt medical societies, insurance companies on the take, and billions of dollars in marketing and lobbying pressure from drug companies.

What is the quick fix? The answers are here in 10 clear chapters, giving examples every step of the way. It's a simple process that takes you, the patient, from being a victim to being in charge.

Developing personal self-confidence, choosing the right doctor for you, walking out on the wrong ones with impunity, and making the right choices will add up to great health care with you at the center. Follow the plan and the facts, and change your life and the lives of your loved ones. Life is to be enjoyed, not feared. This book will put enjoyment back into your life and remove the fear and intimidation from your health care.

This book lives up to its title. It is eye opening.

I learned so much from this including my own tendency to want to appear as a “perfect patient” instead of insisting that I be treated as an equal. Dr Erika will tell you that you are the only expert on what you are feeling and if your doctor excludes you from having a dialogue then you are getting bad care. The stories about doctor arrogance are a terrible indictment of a profession that should be in service to the individuals who come to them for healing - not fear mongering or bullying. I cannot recommend this enough - it’s even better on the second re-listening.

Very informative

It gave me a new prospective on my health and on how much I need to take more responsibility on it. It gave me the knowledge that it is okay to question my doctors if I need to that there is no reason to be intimidated.

A Must Read for Every Doctor and Patient

Erika has written this from her heart and because of her love for her patients and the practice of medicine. I can echo her words from personal experience over 40 years as a doctor and as a patient. Our system is sick. Erika is so brave to stand up and speak out. I have heard her speak and she truly does care about our broken system and all patients as they try to navigate the system. I feel her book should be required reading for every new medical student and intern. They should read it before even being allowed to care for their first patient. It is a wake up call for patients as well. Patients have long felt like the practice of medicine was about what was truly best for them but as they will see in this book and in life....that sadly is not the case anymore in many places in our health care system. Erika thank you for this masterpiece!
