A slow, delicious, sneaky, unraveling of a story we don’t want to believe could ever happen.
This title is stealth in its delivery. If you are listening on Audible, pay close attention. I always learn that lesson after I finish and realize I have questions. I have listened to book #1, DONATE, twice now. I am a fierce Handmaid devotee and was skeptical that this would satiate my need for more dark, dystopian drama. Color me so wrong. It is sneaky in its unraveling; there is so much going on that it’s easy to miss an important detail. The narration was very good but, occasionally I missed character transitions because I busy trying to translate from British to American English!!! Just a joke but, more seriously, I sometimes missed the narrator’s vocal switches from one character to another and would have to navigate back a few seconds, or more, to identify the speaker. It wasn’t a huge negative, however. Emma Ellis is new to me as a writer but, I will certainly be finishing the trilogy (thank you so much for not making beg for more) and then I intend to check into her other offerings. I am over-the-moon-happy to see book #2, PRESERVE, is now available on Audible. I will be buying book #2 pronto. Thank you, Emma. Thank you, Audible.
