Publisher's summary

For over 30 years, Dominion of Blades has been the hottest online role-playing game in the world. Any gamer with an immersion rig can enter the world of sword and sorcery, of goblins and dragons, and they can hack and slash their way to glory. But the game is too real for some, and after an epidemic of real-life fatalities, public use of the immersion technology has been banned, causing the game to be shut down.

Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. With only two companions, trapped in a world that once hosted millions, Jonah must battle his way across a treacherous landscape, fighting virtual monsters, all too real pain, and a very human enemy in a desperate bid to survive.

It would have been a 5 star but pointless torture

The title of this review says it all. I thought that it was needlessly untasteful and didn't add to the book.

This book is amazing

This book has been in my wish list for a good minute halfway through it and I'm so glad I brought it, this book is the first time I've listened to Andrea Parsneau and she does an amazing job I'll probably buy another book narrated by her after I'm done with book 2.
edit. just finished and it gets so much more epic

Different but good

A very interesting story, narrated by a master story teller. Not sure if book two is out or not, but I am interested to see how this story ends. Undead hordes, dragons, ai's, and so much more.

Fantastic! Instantly one of my favorites.

Short version of this review: "Book is amazing, narration is amazing, why the heck haven't you started listening yet? Here's the why ...

I honestly don't think I can praise this book enough. It really just gets so much right. The story has depth, the characters have realistic complexity, there's tension of an ominous bigger plot line looming, there's well-timed comedic relief, there's emotion, and there's moments to make you just plain cringe. This book also avoids the harem element so prevalent in the litRPG genre. I don't mind harem stories, but this is a nice departure. I thoroughly enjoyed how we learned of our characters and both worlds in bits & pieces as our major characters do. And then there's Poppy. Holy eff, is Poppy ever an eff-ing fantastic character. The closest thing to a complaint I have about this book is I have finished it and am longing for more.

Narration is by Andrea Parsneau. That alone should be all you need to know. She's one of the best narrators in the business. She has a great cast of voices, great pacing, emotion, energy, etc. There's really nothing more I could have asked for with the narration.

This audiobook is very highly recommended.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Great book.

So much better than I expected as I have never read a LITRPG book and had no idea what it would be like. I really loved the themes and the characters. Excellent narrator as well.

Let's not overthink like I did in review.

Story has a solid grasp on the genre and holding to the theme. Really, it's just authentic enough based on environmental appeal to be solid, but it is solid.
Saw a few reviews, based on a focus of lgbtq intolerance and in a way that frustrated me.
I won't go further in my own review but unless you are upset by the idea of a masculine persona running a feminine character or precisely vice versa, please just don't give credence to those who draw an antithetical conclusion here.
I also had a bit of a thing against female narrators throuvh experience prior to this. This lady killed it. 10/10 slayed. take. it. as. you. will.

Slightly above average litrpg of a bad game

First off I just have to say so many books that have a premise of most popular game or everyone played requires you to turn your brain off. There are too many punishing systems and not much area for growth for this to be popular. The growth in levels mean nothing in this book since it doesn't raise any stats and it Alyssa accomplishments that do nothing. The only real saving grace is the deep mystery behind why this is happening, which drew me in.

TLDR: This is not for true fans litrpg but casuals or science fiction fans the game systems make no sense

Great author and narrator!

I specifically sought out a book narrated by Andrea Parsneau because she is literally the best narrator I've come across and when I saw that she'd teamed up with Matt Dininan, I was sold. And I did not regret a single moment of that book. In fact, over never been more productive around the house (housework is the best time for me to listen to my audio books).

Awesome book. Don't hesitate for a second!
