The authors, Both contributors and editor, wrote beautiful, transportive, transformative stories. The narrator has a shining voice. I feel represented. May as many people as possible read this book. May disabled readers feel seen and empowered, and may non-disabled readers, whether allied yet or not, step into and appreciate our world. May all readers find something to learn along the way. Many thanks to all who made this work of art possible.

A comprehensive education of modern day Disability Rights told through first person stories and experiences of Disabled individuals. Beautifully written and edited. Job well done to Alice Wong and all of the individuals who shared their accounts.

I just finished reading Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century by Alice Wong. This collection of essays features disabled individuals discussing the crucial need for visibility and accurate representation across all spheres of life. It delves into intersectionality, illustrating how disability intersects with other identities such as race, gender, and class, thereby compounding discrimination. The book also addresses activism and advocacy—not only directly advocating for protections and rights for disabled people but also ensuring their inclusion in movements like Me Too, BLM, Stop Asian Hate etc. One story that particularly resonated with me was from a woman who considered suicide at just nine years old due to her disability. I highly recommend this book to anyone who grew up without close connections to disabled family or friends, as it provides deep insights into their perspectives. It's also a valuable read for disabled individuals who may feel isolated. I give this book a 9.34/10.
