Publisher's summary

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. The festival was an immediate success and has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 130,000 book lovers each year.

Rebecca Solnit is the best-selling author of 10 books as well as countless articles for which she has received numerous awards. In 2003 she won the National Book Critics Circle Award for River of Shadows. Her most recent book is Storming the Gates of Paradise: Landscapes for Politics.

Jalopy is a writer and advocate of sustainable living. He has written for several publications - the majority of his writing can be found on his blog, hooptyrides.blogspot.com, and in the pages of Make: Magazine.

David Mas Masumoto grows organic fruit on his family farm near Fresno. Among his many books is Epitaph for a Peach: Four Seasons on My Family Farm, which won a Julia Child Cookbook Award. Heirlooms: Letters from a Peach Farmer is his most recent book.

Russ Parsons is an award-winning food columnist for the Los Angeles Times. He is the author of How to Read a French Fry and How to Pick a Peach: The Search for Flavor from Farm to Table.

Jenny Price is the author of Flight Maps: Adventures with Nature in Modern America. A contributor to the Native Intelligence column on LA Observed and a recent NEH and Guggenheim Fellow, she was a PEN finalist in 2007 for her Believer piece, "Thirteen Ways of Seeing Nature in L.A."
