Publisher's summary

Mark Pryor's Die Around Sundown is the first entry in an exciting mystery series set in Paris during World War II, where a detective is forced to solve a murder while protecting his own secrets.

Summer 1940: In German-occupied Paris, Inspector Henri Lefort has been given just five days to solve the murder of a German major that took place in the Louvre Museum. Blocked from the crime scene but given a list of suspects, Henri encounters a group of artists, including Pablo Picasso, who know more than they're willing to share.

With the clock ticking, Henri must uncover a web of lies while overcoming impossible odds to save his own life and prove his loyalty to his country. Will he rise to the task or become another tragic story of a tragic time?

Five days. One murder. A masterpiece of a mystery.

Love the Narrator

Initially I wasn’t sure about the storyline but the narrator was so engaging I continued with the book and I’m glad I did. Lots of twists and turns and interesting characters. I would recommend especially on Audible.

Potential… probably 3.5 stars

Was hoping this would be a French Bernie Gunther… close but… there is potential. I enjoyed the story. Reviews are mixed on the narrator - not great, but not horrible. I am spoiled by John Lee.

Was going to give it 3 stars (which for me is a solid rating) but I gave it the fourth for potential. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Not as good as Hugo

The story was ok. I did not like the narrator. His narration did not enhance the story.

Interesting story but,

The author and the narrator both think they are singlehandedly bringing back Detective noir. The plot, though predictable, is interesting. WORST NARRATION EVER. Awful. The guy thinks he's doing 40s radio. Horrible. also, there was an annoying glitch in the revirding/playback that dragged out random syllables for no reason.

Woeful narration

I gave up on this one an hour in. The protagonist is French, and all the other characters (at least in the first hour) are French and German. The narrator's French and German accents are... not good. But unlike all the other characters the main detective is presented without an accent, in a vaguely tough-guy, film-noir American English. The disconnect is incredibly jarring.

Some stilted writing in the first hour, combined with poor reading, and I was done.

Barely readable.

A wasted credit. Poorly written. Poorly narrated. Started this one first with the intention of reading others of his.
Intention cancelled.
