Publisher's summary

A new supernatural suspense series that'll have you breathlessly on the edge of your seat, perfect for fans of Home Before Dark and The Sun Down Motel.

Every summer, revelers sneak into the abandoned town of Eden, Colorado, to celebrate an infamous crime: the Devil's Night Massacre, committed over a century ago by an outlaw nicknamed Bloody Marian. Penny Wright knows the gruesome legends better than most. She’s seen the ghosts that haunt the ruins firsthand, and she shares a history with Eden that she hoped to escape.

Now it’s Penny's job, funded by a corporate sponsor, to make this Devil’s Night the biggest ever. When she returns home for the first time in years, she must face not only her family but Matthew Larsen - once the boy she loved, now the man who broke her heart.

But before the festival even begins, Penny makes a grisly discovery that forces her to question how much she really knows about Eden’s secrets. As Devil’s Night approaches, the lines between the past and present begin to blur. And for Penny, the real nightmare is only just beginning.

So good

I really loved this book. Loved how it went back in time and told the ghosts’ stories. Really kept me on the edge of my seat! Worth reading!! Narrator did a good job as well!

Backwards

I listened to this series backwards. I really enjoyed it. I hope that there are more after “Demon” house. I’m interested in cases that Penny and Xee take on they seem like they will make an interesting duo. I enjoy stories like this with mediums and the supernatural. I thought this was well written and well read. Sometimes the author is really good but doesn’t read it well. I enjoyed both in this case.

Needs a different narrator

Either the people who "loved" the narration didn't listen to this book and are paid reviewers, or they have never listened to any of the other talented narrators on this platform.

The story was good, that is the only reason I continued listening to this book. However, I will not use any credits or money on any of the other books by this author. I can understand the need to keep all money in the pocket of the author, but the narration she does only damages her reputation, more than it helps.

She is monotone. Every character sounds the same. If she is embarrassed to actually have emotion in her voice, then she shouldn't be narrating it. I felt like I was listening to a robot narrating and I absolutely HATED IT!

So disappointing because I really wanted to do better for this review. Again, I liked the story, but it was ultimately ruined by the narration.

Not worth it

The women reading the story was soooooo mono tone and boring. I couldn’t even finish the book. Very disappointed.

Narrator issue

May very well be a good book but narrator was more of a reader..no inflection or drive. May consider getting the book but trying to listen to it was painful, only got through prologue and one chapter.
