Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Lisa Kleypas returns with an enthralling and steaming romance between a Scot with a mysterious past and strong-willed lady looking for adventure - and love.

“The devil never tries to make people do the wrong thing by scaring them. He does it by tempting them.”

Lady Merritt Sterling, a strong-willed young widow who’s running her late husband’s shipping company, knows London society is dying to catch her in a scandal. So far, she’s been too smart to provide them with one. But then she meets Keir MacRae, a rough-and-rugged Scottish whisky distiller, and all her sensible plans vanish like smoke. They couldn’t be more different, but their attraction is powerful, raw, and irresistible.

From the moment Keir MacRae arrives in London, he has two goals. One: Don’t fall in love with the dazzling Lady Merritt Sterling. Two: Avoid being killed.

So far, neither of those is going well.

Keir doesn’t know why someone wants him dead until fate reveals the secret of his mysterious past. His world is thrown into upheaval, and the only one he trusts is Merritt.

Their passion blazes with an intensity Merritt has never known before, making her long for the one thing she can’t have from Keir MacRae: forever. As danger draws closer, she’ll do whatever it takes to save the man she loves...even knowing he might be the devil in disguise.

Every Aspect is Perfection

Mary Jane Wells is the absolute queen of narrators'. She can perform several different character voices with distinction. She complements Lisa Kleypas' words well. I enjoy her plots, the lightness and wry humor in short I loved it!

Good story

Don't pay no mind to the whiners, that lie. Sex on the beach, let's goooooo! BS about the family being in view. These are escapades wrapped up in historical drama. If you can't handle the mention of a "peen" then run away! Five starts for steamy. Great romp!

Kleypas & Wells, perfection!

The very best story of this series, however they are all excellent. Mary Jane Wells is superb and only enriches the story with her character voices, a perfect combination indeed!

Loved It

It was such a sweet story. I love more mature main characters - they make you feel like there's love after 25. It's true that the reader doesn't get to know the MCs as well as in some other books, but I don't think that it takes away from the book. It leaves room for other characters, like the Wallflowers and families. I agreed that this really doesn't belong in the Ravanel series; Good Reads adds a series titled, "The Wallflowers meet the Ravanels," which is perfect. The sex scenes were especially awesome - a fun, sexy Scot and an up for anything widow - couldn't be better! I don't know how anyone could find the sex on the beach scene "disgusting." I was a little bit insulted, since I thought that it was so hot. There wasn't family nearby- the other adults were long gone and there were never any children! This wasn't LK's best work, but it was very enjoyable. MJW's narration makes it great! Her male Scots are so sexy! MJW makes it certain that I will listen again!

Love the romance, the adventure ummm...

I always love Mary Jane Wells. I always love the Ravenels and the Wallflowers. This one starts with the relationship and ends with adventure and that's ok but it's just too much adventure for me.
