About this listen

"Reah, this is Commander Aris." Bel moved aside, once we were inside the spacious office, and I received my first look at the outpost Commander. He stared at me for moments as I stood before him. I was so frightened I was afraid I'd burst into tears. He was a lion of a man with thick, shoulder-length, dark gold hair swept back from his forehead. He didn't stand as his rank dictated, otherwise I think he would have dwarfed Bel, whom I thought was quite tall. The Commander's shoulders were broader, too, and I imagined that he'd gained his rank by working for it. "Reah, how did those two miscreants bring you here when you were underage?" Commander Aris asked me after moments of silence. He sounded as if he'd just gotten his voice back. "They found me and told me I should come with them." I hung my head. I nearly jumped when I imagined that I heard a voice inside my head. I'm sure it was my fear giving me hallucinations when there was nothing there. (Hush, no harm will come), the voice said. I drew a shaky breath and managed to put it out of my mind. The voice didn't come again. The High Demon race is dying, and nothing short of a miracle will save it. Kifirin has promised to provide that miracle, in any way he can.

Reah has worked in the kitchens of her family's restaurants since the age of eight. The only daughter among Addah Desh's 27 children from eight wives, Reah has been ignored, belittled, and abused all her life. When the conscription notice comes from the Regular Alliance Army, Reah is more than happy to report for duty in order to escape her family. Unfortunately, her liberation is short-lived.

Demon Found!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yesss, I am an avid Connie Suttle AND Traci Odom fan. This is an extension of the Blood Destiny Series and that is one of the best series I've listened to. There is a little bit of paranormal everything plus romance in this audiobook.

What did you like best about this story?
Reah's rise.

Which character – as performed by Traci Odom – was your favorite?
All of them. Traci is one of my favorite narrators. She can do male, female, plus give life to her characters with different accents.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!

Any additional comments?
The ending was sudden, but it makes me ache for the next book in the series.

Consistent

Ms Suttle tells a consistent story. Yes, it is too bad that her heroines are ALWAYS bullied and tormented by the men. And that the women NEVER stand up for their personal dignity and keep it there. The men, with perhaps the exception of Ryland, are difiks. But the story of God's and goddesses is a good story. And I happen to like cooking.

Low rating because of Cliffhanger

I wish when the synopsis of a book is written the warning of a cliffhanger is given. I was totally shocked when the reader said "the end." I went what?? No way....sure enough it was the end, with nothing, I mean nothing resolved.
The story premise is interesting, the introduction of our heroines mother's family was brought in to explain her transformation, then they were suddenly dropped, another unresolved issue. The book left me disappointed and frustrated and I feel a total waste of hours listening to have no closure to any of the plots.
