Publisher's summary

Sam Acquillo has spent most of his time in the Hamptons hanging out with the other half of the moneyed wonderland cops and bartenders, carpenters, store clerks, and firemen. He couldn't care less about the concerns of the one percent, until his best friend Burton Lewis, a certified billionaire, is dragged into a high-profile death investigation.

A former corporate superstar brought down by the machinations of the grasping class, Sam's not entirely unfamiliar with the cultural norms of super wealth. It's why he retreated to his cottage refuge at the tip of Oak Point Peninsula jutting into the Little Peconic Bay. But in the intervening years, he's engaged with all forms of low-life tough guys and connivers looking for that edge, an easy path into a social order besotted with unattainable yearning. A world where the best revenge is one with no consequences, no penalties, or costs.

For some, there is no power without prestige, and no prestige that can't be bought. They see no distinction between corporate profit and high-minded nonprofits, charity being the currency of social preeminence. In Deep Dive, Sam discovers just how right he is. The rich can achieve a level of depravity and hate both invisible, and incomprehensible, to the rest of us.

Great story

Engaging entertaining story. Made a 3 hour commute zip by! Lots of characters. A bit difficult to keep up at times, but we’ll worth the read. 4.5 stars due to this. But I rounded up.

Love the Sam Acquillo series!

Always fresh writing with just the right amount of angst and philosophizing mixed with satisfying violence to the bad guys. Knopf is a true romantic, an excellent writer and most of all a great storyteller.

What a fun series

I enjoyed meeting Sam Acquillo and all the other characters, especially Eddie! I’m hoping another book/books are in the pipeline. Until then, enjoy the Little Peconic Bay.

Another satisfying adventure

I have enjoyed every book in this series. This story is another example of a well crafted mystery featuring an ensemble cast of characters led by Sam Acquillo, former engineer, former executive, and part time investigator trying to live a quiet life.

Whatta great story...!!!

Chris Knopf writes real literature... his ability to weave a plotline and narrative with somersault story and characters attended by stunning seat of the pants surprise action scenes have kept me a virtual non-stop listener throughout this entire series. anyone will enjoy listening to any of these entertaining Tales, each of which crescendo to really fine finales. BTW the narration is Top Notch throughout. I can't wait till Mr Knopf finishes his next installment 👍👍👍👍👍

Love this series

I've listened to the entire series; the reader is perfect for these mysteries set in South Hampton. The private eye is a carpenter and tells the stpry with a lot, but not too many telling observations and humor. This wasn't my favorite but nonetheless an entertaoning listen.

Deep Dive and it’s twists and turns.

This narration is a fast paced, convoluted, though in some ways predictable (you might be thinking) right up to the end story of Sam’s life from from through middle age to forced retirement age.
The characters are ,thought provoking, well thought out believable ,realistic and sympathetic people whom one easily either cheers for, like Sam, or really dislike like Sam’s Dad ,who meets his unfortunate end , bringing about the meeting of the great detective who works dead end cases for the Boston Police Department and in my opinion is one of the best characters in the book.
She is a cross between Sam Spade and Super Woman sans her magic and having more brains.
If you enjoy good old fashioned detective work, impossible situations, great deductive reasoning then you will love this book.
I hope you will give it a try as I for one think Chris Knopf has written another home.
I just hope there is another book to follow this one.
