About this listen

The latest installment in Lauren Elliott's ever popular Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery series starring Addie Greyborne, a book-themed cozy series perfect for fans of Kate Carlisle's Bibliophile series and Jenn McKinlay's Library Lover's series.

Wedding bells are about to ring again in Greyborne Harbor, and as Addie slips into her white dress her thoughts are focused on a bright future with Dr. Simon Emerson. But a discovery in her attic leads her to startling revelations about the past. As the owner of Beyond the Page Books and Curios and a lifelong bibliophile, Addie is delighted to find a rare collection of classic children's books gathering dust in a secret room beneath the rafters, including a first edition of The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. To her surprise, a handwritten inscription on the title page provides a clue to unraveling a complex mystery in Addie's family . . .

But that's only the first surprise in a series of shocking twists that will turn Addie's vision of where her life is going and where she's come from upside down—including a suspicious death in the present that suggests foul play.

Two murders instead of one

I like that Addie learned so much history and was able to solve two murders rather than one without Mark or Simon.

Spoilers

What a surprise! After having had Cataract surgeries recently, the treatment includes several weeks of eye drops!!! Hadn't ever thought of them being used in a murder. Of couse, I am also a DNA Queen, and found my maternal great grandmother through the name of my oldest aunt. I throughly enjoyed #9 in this series. Therefore, I had to listen to this great cozy mystery twice, because of this new appreciation for senior citizens.

Addy turns whimpy

I have enjoyed this series and the author continues to weave good storylines. In this one, though, Addy does seem a bit more whiny than usual. She does have something to be upset about, but I was disappointed that this reaction played out for much of the book. It doesn't really fit with a strong female character who has the ability to solve crimes more quickly than even the chief of police. But, I'll read the next one as I am invested in the series now.

The narrator doesn't really "do voices," but she still reads well and is easy to listen to.

A Sad Parting

I enjoyed the book. However, I was disappointed that Addy allowed an old love of Simon's to come in and steal him away. I was upset by Simons dubious behavior. For a supposedly stand up guy. He was with this ex a lot for someone whose supposedly in love with Addy and want to still marry her. Yet he allowed himself to be manipulated by his ex. Who by the way hid the fact she had a child then adopted him out from Simon. Simon thoughout the story was leading me to feel he didn't want to really marry Addy. He kept making Addy a low priority in his life. At one point he visits Addy at 11pm. He only visited to fit Addy in like an after thought after he spent all day with his ex and new found son. Simon by all his actions choose his old flame over his present.

Love the stories but Addie is so unlikeable

I love most of the characters in this series except for the main character. She always acts like everything should revolve around her. While she had reason to be upset in this book, she got upset at everyone about anything that didn't revolve around her. I know the next book has her in England. However, if she comes back I hope she ends up with Mark. I've always been in the Mark camp.

A Great Series

I absolutely enjoyed this whole series. The storyline in this last book was very well written. The characters were very interesting and the secrets that unfolded were Great. It was a surprise to see Addie give up Simon, BUT I for one liked it. I so wanted Addie to be with Mark !!! So maybe ????
Thanks for this last book and I hope you continue the series?
