Publisher's summary

The board-certified specialists of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists are here to decode how dogs think, how they communicate, and how they learn.

More than 90 percent of dog owners consider their pets to be members of their family. But often, despite our best intentions, we are letting our dogs down by not giving them the guidance and direction they need. Unwanted behavior is the number-one reason dogs are relinquished to shelters and rescue groups.

The key to training dogs effectively is first to understand why our dogs do what they do. And no one can address this more authoritatively than the diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, whose expert and researched work analyze problem behaviors and correct common misconceptions.

With veterinary-approved positive training methods, expert advice on socialization, and remedies for behavior problems such as OCD and aggression, Decoding Your Dog is the must-have behavior guide that will challenge the way we think about man's best friend.

"Decoding Your Dog: The Ultimate Experts Explain C

"Decoding Your Dog: The Ultimate Experts Explain Common Dog Behaviors and Reveal How to Prevent or Change Unwanted Ones" by Debra F. Horwitz, John Ciribassi, and Steve Dale is an excellent resource for any dog owner who wants to better understand their canine companion. The book covers a wide range of topics, from basic dog behavior to more complex issues like anxiety and aggression.

The authors are all experts in their field, and they provide clear and concise explanations of the concepts they present. The book is also well-organized and easy to read, making it a valuable resource for both novice and experienced dog owners.

One of the things I particularly appreciate about this book is that it focuses on positive reinforcement training methods. The authors emphasize the importance of building a strong bond with your dog and using positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors. This approach is both humane and effective, and it can lead to a happier and more fulfilling relationship with your dog.

Overall, I highly recommend "Decoding Your Dog" to any dog owner who wants to learn more about their canine companion. This book is a valuable resource that will help you to understand your dog's behavior, prevent unwanted behaviors, and build a stronger bond with your furry friend.

Pretty good but with some lengths

Good advices in general. A good first book to read. Some sections are a bit redondant. Where is the downloadable PDF file the book mentions a few times??

EVERY dog owner should read this.

I'm an LVT with 30+ years in practice. Seen a lot of unwanted behaviours in pets and frustration on the sides of the owners trying to fix them.
This book is practical, well organized, fact based information regarding the truths about canine behaviour, good and not so good. Very easily understood by lay persons-all scientific vocabulary is defined extensively to make sure there is no confusion.
The authors goals are to debunk myths surrounding why man's best friend behaves the way she does and common mistakes we as humans make in interpreting those behaviours; To help us humanely work with our furry friends to be good companions, and a comprehensive guide into commonly perceived mis-behaviours that either occur as anomaly in the pet OR natural doggie reaction/learning we ecouraged through lack of understanding of circumstance.
Highly recommend!!
