About this listen

She’s a lone wolf, raised to combat. But fighting him isn’t what she wants.

Elliot Smith has trained hard to live and work alone, even in her job as a security specialist for JCL Security. No relationships, no ties, except the one to the man who kidnapped and murdered her mother. She’ll do anything to kill Martin Diako, the untouchable South African pirate king. When Deacon Walsh walks into her office, she finally sees a chance to do just that.

Deacon went from soldier to mercenary warrior to stay-at-home dad, and now his past is back to haunt him. Martin Diako, the father of the terrorist Deacon killed two years ago, is coming for revenge, and he has his sight set on Deacon’s daughter. An heir for an heir. Deacon will do anything to protect her, even if it means asking for help. But the security team he’s hired comes with an added complication: the only woman to interest him since his wife died.

Deacon always leads his team, and Elliot protects hers. They might have one chance at their enemy - if they can work together. Will their hunger for each other pull them together, or push them apart?

Strong heroine for the win

I like suspenseful romance. I especially love them with a strong female lead. While gender norms tend to really dominate in the genre, there’s the rare book with a female character that’s not “soft” or “tender” or naive and virginal. This is a good one.

I loved it!

This is the second book in the Southern Nights: Enigma, a spin-off Series to the Southern Nights Series, a Romantic Suspense. Deacon and Elliot's story is breathtakingly well written, and suspenseful! Deacon, a single Dad, is handsome, and very protective. Elliot is a wonderful character, strong, and determined. I loved to see again the characters from the first book. The storyline is intricate and captivating. Impossible to put it down. Stella Hunter and Jason Clark did an outstanding job with the narration. They are perfect as Elliot and Deacon! I enjoyed it, and I am looking forward to listening to Destroy Me, the next book in the Series. I like Ella Sheridan's writing. She definitely is one of my favorite Romantic Suspense authors.

Such good romantic suspense!

First let me say that romantic suspense is my favorite trope and every book I have heard by Ella Sheridan has been amazing. Team her up with Stella Hunter and Jason Clarke and this listen for me was a no brainer! Deacon is in need of protection for his daughter. Being sought after by his nemesis, Martin Diako, he knows the threat is real, and he will do whatever it takes to keep his daughter safe. Hiring Elliott may be the best decision he ever made. Elliott has worked alone for a long time. Becoming a nanny is not exactly what she has in mind for her skills, but if it means the chance to seek her revenge, it may be the perfect place for her. What she doesn't count on is the feelings that develop not only for Deacon, but for his daughter. But there is a secret that may destroy them both before they even get started. Will it all work out? Twists, turns, deceit, danger, lust, family, passion, it's all there for the asking, and Sheridan takes us through the web. It's fast paced, exciting and oh, the steam! I loved every minute of this book and can't wait for book 3!

The narration team truly enhances this story with a realistic and thrilling performance. Stella Hunter is the stubborn, strong warrior, Elliott and she pours the bravery into her one minute and is warm and motherly the next. I love her versatility and it creates great depth for Elliott. Deacon is an alpha male, very focused and protective and it all comes through with Jason Clarke. This duet narration is impeccable and if you love romantic suspense is one you want to add to your collection.

Finally, a book that is its own!

My problem my be that I have read and listened to so many books that they all just start sounding the same. I have been searching for weeks for a good book, author, or series that actually has some meat to the story. You know, a good read. But for the life of me I have had no luck, until now.

This author is new to me. I found this series and then saw there were three books before this. I read two of those three. I will read the third eventually. This one just sounded more interesting.

The first one was a quick read but still interesting enough to have bought this one. Wow! I'm so glad I did. This is a great story! I love some action with my romance. I love some sexy parts too. I'm so sick of all the smut. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a good smut read, but once you have read a few they all begin to sound the same. That goes for any genre really.

Thats why I am so excited about this one. It has everything I love.
Alpha male ✔️
Strong female lead ✔️
Action ✔️
Romance ✔️
Sexy time ✔️
Swooning ✔️
A great family dynamic ✔️ The other characters were so well written I can't wait to learn more about them.
And just a really good storyline. Beginning, middle, and end. It never feel flat and kept me hooked until the end. I had to make myself turn it off to sleep.

I never once thought "I've heard this before, haven't I?"

The only thing im upset about is that I wish I would've bought all 5 books when they were on sale.

must read or better still listen to Jason & Stella

I am going to start with saying I loved this book. Ella Sheridan never lets me down when I want a fantastic, hot, suspense read and she absolutely did it again with this book. I have to admit I had previously read this book when it was first released. Once I saw this was available on audio I had to have it. Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter were the perfect voices for Decan and Elliott and made me re-fall in love with this series.

Deceive Me had me hooked from the first page when Elliott puts Decan on his arse and kept me enthralled to the last page that I turned with a big fat grin. It had the perfect mix of romance, drama and two wonderful main characters that you will love. I must admit I love all the characters in this series.

Elliott and Deacon are perfect for each other. You have the hot alpha dad (former solider/mercenary warrior) who is trying to protect his daughter from a South African pirate, who will stop at nothing and the fighter Elliott who while hiding her past has found some happiness in her job but is always looking to take down the men who killed her mother.

I know I’ve already said I loved this book and I really did. From Elliott and Deacon, to Elliott’s team mates and Deacon’s best friends I loved every character. Ella Sheridan has given me another book to fall in love with and I have that’s for sure. Dive in and enjoy Elliott and Deacon as much as I did. You won’t be sorry.

Deceive Me is book 2 in the Southern Nights Enigma series. This series follows on from Southern Nights series. All books in both series are a stand-alone novella, but to enhance your reading enjoyment, I highly recommend you read them in order.

Great Story

I love romantic suspense and this story was a perfect combination with a WOW factor of a secret.
Elliot Smith is a security specialist for JCL Security and she takes her job very seriously. Do not question her abilities or she will put you on your backside as she does to Deacon Walsh when they first meet.
Deacon needs help protecting his daughter. After most of his team is killed by Martin Diako, the untouchable South African pirate king, but looking at the little woman before him he he doesn't think she can take care of herself. But when be lands on his back, he knows she can take care of herself, but can she take care of his daughter.
As the team sets things up at Deacon's house Elliot is keeping a huge secret that she needs to tell him before he finds out other ways. It is not something she needs to keep from him. But the chemistry between them is growing each time they are close and they can't deny it.
This story was so good that I didn't want to stop listening, I needed to know how it would end. Did they get the murderer? Was anyone else hurt or killed? Will Elliot and Deacon be together after he learns he secret?
I love this authors writing style and look forward to reading more of this series. And I loved the dual narration by Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter, they were they perfect Elliot and Deacon.
