It was great! It reminded me of Catherine Airde’s style of writing. I will certainly listen to the rest of this series and the narrator was wonderful.❤️

I had no idea if I would like this book but

This is an easy listen with engaging characters. It is not as complex as some mystery novels, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Story great as well as the wonderful real life connection to the story told to us after the story finished. Loved it!

I’m not usually one for historical books, however this one was a pleasant read. I do enjoy history and it was nice at the end to get a little history lesson from the author. The book kept me entertained and guessing!

Enjoyable

I liked the story but did not like the narrator for a number of reasons mostly because of how she portrayed each character as being simpering, petulant or unpleasant. I did, however, like the writing, story line and Augusta Peel as well as the other lead characters. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series…it’s too bad they are all narrated by Sarah Nicole.

I selected this book on a whim. I am so pleased that I did. I enjoyed the plot, the pace and characters. I am going to continue with the series.

Mystery was good with a few layers. The narration was good, but sometimes the voices of some of the characters got mixed up. The historical notes at the end are very interesting.

This was very enjoyable and well-narrated. I can understand reviewers’ comments about characters sounding too similar to easily tell them apart in a conversation. This is not uncommon in audiobook narration (I’ve probably listened to thousands over the decades), and this reader is also sometimes inconsistent with each character’s voice. I’m sure it’s very difficult while reading aloud to keep track of different genders and ages as they switch back and forth, but the best readers are somehow able to audibly separate them. The exceptional ones (and there are many) are also able to juggle dialects, which is quite a feat. Despite this issue, the narrator is good and any momentary confusion about speakers doesn’t interfere with understanding the plot. I’m looking forward to more audiobooks from this author and narrator. This one kept me guessing to the end.

I was not sure I would like this book, but took a chance since I could not find anything I wanted to listen to. Glad I did, Augusta Peel is a likeable person, and her relationships to all others in the book are realistic. Just ordered the next book.
