Publisher's summary

One of the most endearing and personable amateur sleuths" (Midwest Book Review), herbalist and ex-lawyer China Bayles is back. In Death Come Quickly, a friend's murder may be the key to solving a fifteen-year-old cold case.

When China's and Ruby's friend Karen Prior is mugged in a mall parking lot and dies a few days later, China begins to suspect that her friend's death was not a random assault. Karen was a filmmaker supervising a student documentary about the fifteen-year-old murder of a woman named Christine Morris and the acquittal of the man accused of the crime. Is it possible that the same person who killed Christine Morris targeted Karen?

Delving into the cold case, China learns the motive for the first murder may be related to a valuable collection of Mexican art. Enlisting the help of her San Antonio lawyer friend Justine Wyzinski - aka the Whiz - China is determined to track down the murderer. But is she painting herself into a corner from which there's no escape?

Painful!!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Would recommend the book but NOT this audiobook

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Plot was very good, as usual. Love the China Bayles series

How could the performance have been better?

The performer spoke in such an obnoxious twang that even I, a native Texan who can make my name, Pat, into a two-sylable word, cringed as if listening the nails on a chalkboard. Will be certain to avoid her performances at all costs

Was Death Come Quickly worth the listening time?

Barely

Excellent - as always

Which character – as performed by Julia Gibson – was your favorite?

I love Julia's Ruby. I sometimes have to remind myself that it is indeed one voice actress. Ms. Gibson is one of my all time favourite narrators. I'm not a connoisseur of accents - so if there's any imperfections in the Southern accents - I'm blissfully ignorant.

Any additional comments?

One of my favourite things about this series is you never know what Susan Wittig Albert will do with her well established characters. Will she stay in Pecan Springs? Travel back in time, or remain in the present. I always enjoy the China Bayles' books and wherever they might take me.

*** Small note in regards to the sound editing. there were at least three places where the one sentence was said twice, back to back. Someone missed it when editing the book together :-(

Wish I Could Gobble Up the Whole Book in One Sit

Thank you, Susan, for staying with the China Bayle series. I can't get enough of this series. Death Come Quickly is a great read, but the narrator's weak rendition of Ruby doesn't match the voice in my head of a strong vibrant woman. Otherwise, all is as it should be and I can't stop listening once I start. Extremely good writing and plot. Well done.

Enjoyed it

Read it weeks ago, had stockpiled audiobooks for a busy spell, am reviewing to keep track of what's read and to be a little bit of assistance. Can't remember additional comments, with apologies!
