Based on a “that can’t actually be true” story, Dead Outlaw is the darkly hilarious and wildly inventive new musical about Elmer McCurdy, an early 20th-century outlaw who became a traveling corpse and accidental celebrity. After a botched train robbery and an untimely death, Elmer’s body embarks on a decades-long postmortem adventure—through carnivals, roadside attractions, wax museums, and even a Hollywood film set. Dead Outlaw dives into the absurdity of fame, the inevitability of failure, and the meaning—or utter meaninglessness—of legacy.

With music and lyrics by Tony Award winner David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit) and Erik Della Penna, and a book by Tony Award winner Itamar Moses (The Band’s Visit), and directed by Tony Award winner David Cromer (The Band’s Visit)- Dead Outlaw marks Audible’s first-ever commissioned musical.

I’d actually listened to the cast album before and liked it, but this is just such a wonderful document of a wonderful musical.

This could be just because it was my first time listening to a story of this style so it was a bit odd at first but the music was great, story overall just wasn't what I was expecting.

Dead Outlaw was my favorite show of this Broadway season and I’m sad I wasn’t able to see it again before it closed. The music is magical, the whole cast is captivating, the story is perfectly bizarre, and the show is highly addictive. Dead Outlaw deserved at least a tenth of the life Elmer had after death!

This will get caught in your head in multiple ways. Incredible storytelling with epic music by geniuses. A true story that cannot be missed

This show deserved a longer life on Broadway, and now it has in this format. A excellent capture. Jeb Brown's narration is Audio book perfect. For those who saw the show it's the perfect keepsake (so much better then a cast recording). For those being introduced to the show, such a great solid job by all!

When I first heard of the show my first thought was “that sounds cool!, I want to go see it” so I bought tickets to see it on my upcoming trip to New York unfortunately it closed before the trip and I got a refund. Luckily they pushed the release of this to exactly five days before I was originally supposed to see it. Just by listening to this I’ve already found my favorite show ever and it feels like it was exactly written for my tastes in music and theatre
