Critic reviews

“Robert Dunn unloads both barrels - Dead Man's Badge is a fast, furious shootout from beginning to end. This tale of corrupt cops, cartel killers, and one bad guy just trying to make good, lingers like gun smoke. Bloody, dark, and pistol-whip smart, it's Border noir at its best.” (J. Todd Scott, author of The Far Empty)

“Fans of Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns will find a lot to like.” (Publishers Weekly)

"In Dunn's capable hands, readers will jump onboard for the ride. Dunn is a gifted writer and he opens Dead Man's Badge with one of the most gripping scenes I've ever read. Fans of grit will love this fast-paced book." (Mystery Scene Magazine)

Great Story - Great Narrator

This was an excellent audiobook! Not only was the story intriguing and suspenseful, but the narrator had me wanting to hear more. He portrayed the characters excellently. The main character, Longview Moody sounded just as I would have imagined him: cool, calm and totally in control… kind of like a Clint Eastwood movie. The narrator’s flawless Mexican accent worked perfectly for the characters they represented. And I absolutely loved the “down home” low tone and Texas accent of Buick Tindall, Moody’s father. Perfect vibe!

I finished the audiobook in just two sessions. I couldn’t stop listening. Each chapter was better than the one before it.
The story begins with Longview Moody digging his own grave and ends with him changing his life and many of those around him. Great stuff!

A Good read / listen

Dead Man's Badge: By: Robert E. Dunn.. Never read anything by this author before, so this was untested waters and a bit of a gamble.
I wasn't sure for the first 45 minutes, but then I was sucked in and WOW it is a superb audiobook . The book itself is well written, tense and exciting with a lot of action.
The narrator raised this from a good story to a superb audiobook experience. It is 10 hours and I was so engrossed in the tale I don't know where the time went I was surprised that the ending came so soon.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.

Great Author, Great Narrator, Great Book

I unlike other people did not get a free copy of the book. Thank goodness I did. If I hadn't I would not have had the privilege of finding such a talented new author. I loved the narrators cool emotions for the main character, just how I pictured him. I could almost feel the heat on my skin and dust in my mouth from the incredibly detailed descriptions of the book settings. The plot had enough twist and turns to keep my interest at peak levels. The characters were well thought out and evoked the appropriate emotion (love or disgust) each time they appeared. Dialogue and plot were spot on point. Can't wait to see what else comes out this incredible authors stable!

a good book

the book was very interesting the development of the scenario was very good everything was written with a big amount of thought behind it and as a listener and a reader you can see it the narrator did a good enough job I think it could have done a tiny bit better but overall the book was so good that I enjoyed it very much

When your twin becomes you...Great story!

A man on the run from killers assumes the identity of his recently deceased dead brother before anyone knows that he is dead. This makes him the Chief of Police in a small Texas town being terrorized by a Mexican drug cartel. Longview Moody discovers that the cartel murdered his brother. Now he has the chance to do the right thing and to honor his brother's memory by really becoming the good man his brother was. But the cartel makes it hard to do that, especially when Longview wants to avenge his brother's death.

Great story of a man torn by wanting to do the right thing, but struggling to keep his true self at bay. A great book by Robert E. Dunn keeps you listening to find out what happens next. Problem is, I had a struggle of my own - with a poor narrator who's monotone delivery made me want to quit listening, but the good story kept me going.

Worth a listen.

Great story, bad narrator!

As we enter the immense desert of the Southwest we find our protagonist Longview Moody digging his own grave. Longview’s luck did not improve all that much throughout the book. Longview’s twin brother, former Ranger and now police chief gets himself killed in Longview’s trailer. Longview decides to take his brother’s place and heads for the small Texas town to find out whether it was he or his brother that was targeted. What Longview walks into is a huge conspiracy of crime and corruption between the Mexican Cartel, DEA enforcement, and the local police. Throughout the story Longview struggles with who he is and who his brother would have been. The intricate story between players is exceptional to say the least. What would have made it five star is a better narrator than the dead pan voice we are given. I put up with the voice because the story was so good. For the most part I rather liked it

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I thought this was a pretty good book. The story is interesting and grabbed my attention pretty quickly. It was engaging enough that I kept with it. The narrator was just ok. His voices, were good, it was just that there were these slightly too long pauses between sentences. It annoyed me, but not so much that I couldn't finish the book.
