About this listen

As a scruffy, disorganised daydreamer, Lucy Mayweather is like a fish out of water at the high-powered offices of her brother’s billionaire best friend. When she agreed to work for Felix, she had no idea quite how cut-throat his world–or he–would be. She just wanted to escape her reclusive life and be close to her childhood crush, hoping he might notice her.

But Lucy’s lonelier in London than she’s even been in her tiny village back home. The boy she grew up with has been replaced by a powerful, ruthless, extremely attractive man who doesn’t tolerate incompetence and who no longer seems to find Lucy’s quirks cute. Instead, he lectures her almost daily on her general crapness, and seems blind to the bullying she endures from his colleagues.

For Felix, agreeing to employ Lucy was a mistake. This shy bookworm with her head in the clouds, who wears tattered jumpers, carries multiple pens in her hair and has an obvious crush on him must be by far the worst assistant in London. But he’s always had a soft spot for the quirky little girl who lived in her own world and told the best stories. Well, now that little girl is all grown up… and he can’t stop thinking about her.

After Felix gives in to his bone-deep longing for his best friend’s little sister, he starts to feel more than he has in years. But Lucy has secrets, and Felix has trust issues. When his inability to trust her leads to a terrible betrayal and places Lucy in danger, Felix is faced with losing her forever. Because the new, hardened, traumatised Lucy is nothing like the daydreaming pushover she once was…

This is a full length, brother's best friend, grumpy billionaire boss romance.

Trigger warning for workplace harassment and assault.

Warningthere is swearing throughout this book.

I read the book first and then had to get the audio book. I love all of Susie Tate’s books, but this is my favorite. I love Lucy’s character.

I will be Daydreaming for awhile

Susie Tate has created a wonderful story and love the concept of a Daydreamer ending up being a successful author. Zara Hampton Brown is the best, perfect voice for the MFL Lucy. Ms. Hampton Brown does male and childrens voices very well. The pacing was great and the Duet narration impeccable. Shane East of course does the best job with MML Felix and does a decent job with female voices since he has a lower register anyway. Doing children's voices isn't so smooth, yet oddly endearing anyway.

Lucy is a woman who grew up telling stories and Felix encouraged her to tell them out loud to him. Partly to calm himself for having a sh*t dad and to help Lucy come out of herself. Lucy grows up to be a creative, shy woman who Felix doesn't realize is a best selling author, thinking he needs to 'save' or 'reinvent' her to the Corporate world he is used to.

Lucy had always loved Felix and he of course realizes that he has loved her. There are some rocky moments and Felix's dad gets his.

The story does address work place sexual harassment and assault. Author Susie Tate does a great job with this topic in not dismissing it or making excuses without being too graphic for a romance genre.

I am on to the next book in the series, which isn't narrated yet and I sure hope it is in the works.

LOVED The Grovel!

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
I'm a serious sucker for a good grovel, but sometimes I genuinely feel like authors are closet boy moms. The amount of things that men get away with and don't have to do ANYTHING to win the heroine back is insane. I feel like the level of grovel in this story was PERFECT! Chef's kiss! I loved the depiction of neurodivergent characters in this book as well. I had a serious hate-on going for the male main character in the beginning, the level of arrogant indifference was enough to make my skin prickle. The switch to cinnamon roll was done so well that it was perfect. This was an overall great listen. I definitely would recommend!

It took a minute

I have to say that at the beginning of this book, I found Lucy to be insufferably hopelessly, helpless, which was annoying. The girl can’t even walk. And I get not fitting in a cutthroat work environment, but there were times she didn’t even understand basic rules of socialization. However, as the book continued, and you see her confidence in other areas grow, I began to really like her, and while Felix was also pretty insufferable in the beginning, his yearning for Lucy was really heartfelt. And the abuse that Lucy suffered and his response to it was really touching. Eventually, I did didn’t want the book to end. I love these characters even though I didn’t relate to them very much.

Perfect! Love Lucy and Felix’s story

My first Susie Tate story, and now I’ll be getting all the rest! Loved this so much! At first, I was annoyed that Lucy didn’t have much of a backbone, but quickly realized how true to life her character was. Very relatable. Great representation of neurodivergent characters, even though not outright labeled as such. And Felix - that was some epic groveling. I am so anxious for Lottie and Vickie’s stories.

The duet narration was fantastic. Couldn’t stop listening and it flew by. Hope this duo narrate the next two books in the series.
