Acerca de esta escucha

Tragedy had reduced James to a nobody.

Washed up and homeless in NYC, he thought his life was over. Then a message appeared in his vision:

[60,000-year countdown has ended]

[Nemesis 1 released]

[Please acknowledge]

As the world falls apart, as billions die, as society collapses, and all hope seems lost, James discovers a powerful truth: he was wrong to think himself a nobody. Summoning every ounce of grit and determination, he'll help forge a resistance that will defy humanity's near-omnipotent enemy by taking the fight from the streets of NYC to the stars themselves.

With the dawn of the Void, he'll become the most important person to have ever lived.

overall a well written book and great narration. however, a few annoying aspects distract from otherwise good book. first, I get it author you think humanity is full of a bunch of idiots and that only special people will save the world. however most people are equally intelligent and making most of your characters do incredibly dumb things except for the special few that you want to excel is just distracting. second the whole military conscription thing kind of seems pointless. It's so forced and would be against any common sense that any actual military person would do as to be laughable but then you just have the military collapsed completely shortly after. seriously author?

pretty good and pretty niyalistic

The tortured soul was a bit over done for my tastes but the story was good enough to carry it.

I liked it but….

Honestly blown away, so well done, a mature flawed main character, excellent story, great action!!!

Amazing

Excited to check out more work from both the author and the narrator. The author involves so much realism in character development and evolving the world we know so smoothly into the catastrophe. And the narrator has a broad range of voices that always indicated exactly who was talking. Looking forward to the next book.

Hit my top 5 for LitRPG

less convoluted than litrpg regular and a good story all around. hopefully a bit more time passes in the next book

Great Story

I have listened to over 200 audio books. Mainly Epic Fantasy, LitRPG, Science Fiction with the obvious System and Apocalyptic thrown in. It has been awhile since I listened to a book that was so well narrated and written that I quite literally locked myself away from friends, family and co-workers. I actually burned a vacation day from work so I could binge and finish book 2. This book and series is "Top Shelf" no doubt. The balance between action and dealing with apocalyptic day-to-day is very well done but what kicks this up the ranks is that the world is placed into the system without the author shoving system notifications down our throats. If anything, the system notifications are a little watered down, but that in no way detracts from the story, rather it plugs you more into the characters and what they are dealing with.

As for the narration, I have several favorites; Nick Podehl, Travis Baldree and Heath Miller to name a few. Now I have to add Tom Taylorson to the top of that list. What separates the good from the great narrators is the ability to instantly know whose voice they are doing without the author telling you who is speaking. Also difficult is for a male voice, especially one with a deep baritone, to do a female voice so fluid and convincingly. I am sure it is hard work but Tom's performance here was simply outstanding. I honestly could not think of anyone who could have told this story any better.

I highly recommend this book and entire series!!!!

WOW and THANK YOU!!

While some folks dislike the homeless background and dreary life. I think it adds depth to his character. Vibes right in there with NYC. Human heart matters, not their status and previous circumstances. It’s the apocalypse. We get to see if favorite characters can hold onto grace.

Good Main character background story

Unlike a lot of apocalypse litrpgs This one doesn't start off by randomly killing whatever percentage of people. This one starts with everybody alive and the Apocalypse doesn't start until you acknowledge. Everyone that is give anl chance to acknowledge faces but a single monster. As with all stories like this one it only gets worse from there.

In my opinion the author does a good job of nailing down just how people and the government would react in these situations. The main characters have pretty good back stories as well, Pretty believable.

The narrator does a good job and If you don't like endless stat dumps then this is perfect for you. they do level up and gain stat points to spend but its limited. there are no endless skills to go through. In fact you rarely ever have to listen to a full Breakdown of the main character stats at all, Most of the time It just says what they spent the point on.

Dislikes? Serenity whom is a main character, a companion of sorts to the main main character James. She.. idk... from her back story you can conclude that she was a f-up, gutter trash, destined to OD In a bathroom in some bar. the story does a pretty good job at building her up from being trash to important but occasionally the way the author has her talk/act just is a bit annoying sometimes (not so much a I'm better than you sort of way but a I'm wiser than you so you should just shut up. okay honey? ) (the way she calls people honey is never in an endearing way) but that's a matter of opinion. but what I find more annoying is that no one calls her out on it, Its like the author always gives her that last word, last joke, last comment and that's the end of it. I just find it hard to believe that during a crisis when emotions are running high that everyone chooses to keep their mouth shut.

other than that no real complaints, its worth a credit. when i got the book it was on sale for 7.99 which is cheaper than a credit

realistic apocalypse?

The characters feel like real people which is always a nice find in this genre. Also, unlike some of the other books by this author, the pacing hardly drags at all. There is almost always something going on and the relationships between the characters develop as the story is progressed instead of having a break from the story for characters to discuss their relationships.

Great Characters Almost Perfect Pacing
