Publisher's summary

A wedding to end a war. It’s been four years since the blood feud between the Branwens and Mathonwys started. Four years of sunken ships and loved ones lost, four years of wounds both seen and unseen. Keira Branwen is no stranger to duty. As the first mate of a legendary pirate ship, blessed by the sea-god Lyr, and heir apparent to her clan, she would sail to the Otherworld and back to keep her family safe. But when the Council threatens banishment for her people, Keira is faced with a choice; she must either marry her father’s alleged killer, the sea-snake Ronan Mathonwy, or curse her family to the deep.

But in the Seven Isles of the Deyrnas, secrets sleep just beneath the surface of the water. Her father’s death is still shrouded in mystery, and Ronan - her childhood friend, the man she once loved - is hell-bent on proving his innocence. As enemies become friends and friends become suspects, Keira must wade through the waters of doubt to expose the truth, save her family, and restore her father’s legacy. But Keira soon learns that there are ties thicker than blood, and there is more than one way to sacrifice a life.

Great read

Keira bears the burden of ending a feud between her family, the Branwens and the Mathonwys by marrying Ronan Mathonwy. The only problem is Ronan allegedly killed her father years ago causing a chasm between them. The two must work together to fulfill the marriage contract for their families, and Ronan is determined to prove his innocence.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book. The stakes are high from the beginning and the book moves at a quick pace. The main character Keira develops substantially throughout the story and you root for her as she learns to forgive and comes into her role as a leader. The enemies to lovers is also deliciously delivered. Ronan is swoon worthy from the beginning and is endearing in his devotion and love for Keira.

There are some big twists in the book that were a surprise. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

The narrator did a great job and was engaging throughout the story.

Pirates, betrayal and old flames

This was a fun YA swash-buckling adventure. Childhood friends are torn apart when Kiera believes that he childhood friend and first love killed her father. This ignites a bloody battle between the two families extremely similar to Romeo and Juliet. To end this blood feud the counsel chooses Kiera to unite the two families through marriage. She is paired with her childhood flame and supposed murderer. This begins a trial of wills where their hatred of each other blooms into something else as they unite to find the real killer. It's well written and has meddlesome Gods and found family vibes.

As far as the romance goes it was, fine... My biggest issue was all the *fade to black* moments when I realized it was YA and my slutty self was disappointed. However, there are a lot of sweet moments and I found myself smiling. The only other odd thing was how the audio was produced... Whenever multiple people talked or the Gods shouted at her I could barely understand what they were saying because of the layering affect they used in production. I have no idea what they said like 90% of the time. Pretty sure it was important too... So just be aware the audio is great until that stuff happens!

Awful

This was an awful story and I was not happy with the ending. The Extra 22.5 chapter ruined the whole book. It could have been a great story, it could have worth sharing. Now I'm just annoyed and disgusted by the whole thing.
