Publisher's summary

Seventeen-year-old Lorelei Patio is the adopted daughter of 200-year-old vampire Sergio Patio. She never realized why her family has had to move so often or why she is not permitted to get too friendly with other young people. In fact, except for one shocking moment that seemed more like a dream, Lorelei never fully realized who and what her father was nor what her sisters were brought up to do for him. But one day, that all changed. Sergio’s "daughters" serve a very important purpose: they are all beautiful young ladies who can easily attract---and lure---men so that Sergio can feed on their blood. And now daddy expects Lorelei to be the obedient daughter he needs and bring him new victims.

But when Lorelei meets a shy, handsome young man named Buddy in school, she quickly falls in love with him. He feels the same way but wonders why she doesn't want to take him home to meet her father. Lorelei knows what will happen if she does and tries desperately to keep her two worlds apart, but she knows she can never truly escape her fate as a daughter of darkness. How will she manage these two worlds, and what will she have to give up to do so?

I loved this book and can't wait to start the next book. I hope daughters of the light is just as amazing as this book.

Great Story!

If you could sum up Daughter of Darkness in three words, what would they be?

Surprisingly Great Read!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Daughter of Darkness?

This whole book was great, I can't think of just "one" moment that I would mark as the "most memorable"

Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This reader did a very good job with the whole performance, I was pleasantly surprised.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I listened to this book in one sitting! I could not turn it off! And then I listened to it again!

Any additional comments?

I do hope they continue making the rest of this series into audible form! I keep checking but so far, no luck.

not the usual vc andrews book

Any additional comments?

This is not the usual V.C Andrews book. There is sort of incest, but not really because it is okay to be with family members if you are a vampire.

strange

It is interesting to note that VC Andrews's novels, which predate the Twilight series, contributed to the popularity of vampire literature. However, the recurring theme of incest in her books raises questions about the author's intentions. While her storytelling skills are undeniable, the consistent presence of incestuous relationships in her works warrants further examination. It is unclear whether this was a deliberate choice to evoke historical royal marriages or a personal fixation of the author.

A little slow at first, eventually gets better.

I had a hard time getting through this however it was just interesting enough to want to keep going. You didn't really know the big part of the book and explanations until the last few chapters. I am just interested enough to try book 2 and we will see what happens.

Interesting

The story was structured very well. And there was more than enough here to keep me interested. However I’m kind of on the fence about that ending. That whole reveal about how the family structure of vampires works and how typical social norms don’t apply to them didn’t really sit well with me, but I don’t think it was supposed to because even the main character was disturbed. All in all this is one of Andrew’s better books and I hope the sequel is good too.
