Das Märchen „Das tapferen Schneiderlein“ handelt von einem armen Schneider, der eines schönen Tages, durch ein Schwarm Fliegen, beim Essen eines Marmeladenbrotes, gestört wird. Genervt von dem Rumgesurre, schlägt er inmitten der Fliegen und tötet mit einem Schlag sieben Stück. Aus Stolz näht er sich prompt den Satz: „Siebene auf einen Streich“ auf seinen Gürtel und macht es sich fortan zur Aufgabe, jedermann von seiner Geschichte zu berichten. Er beschließt in die weite Welt hinaus zu gehen und nimmt zu Anfang seiner Reise ein Stück Käse und einen Vogel mit. Auf seinem Weg durch das Land, trifft er auf einen Riesen, dem er stolz seinen Gürtel zeigt. Der Riese aber hält das für einen Witz und fordert das Schneiderlein zu einem Kräftemessen heraus. Nachdem bei allen Taten das Schneiderlein durch seine List gewinnt, lädt der Riese ihn zum Übernachten in seine Höhle zu den anderen Riesen ein. Als es spät wird und das tapfere Schneiderlein ins Bett geht, ist dieses natürlich zu groß, sodass er sich in die Ecke des Bettes kauert. Während das tapfere Schneiderlein schlummert, nehmen die Riesen eine Eisenstange und schlagen das Bett, in der Annahme das Schneiderlein somit zu töten, in zwei Teile. Als er sich aus der Lage befreit hat, setzt er seine Reise fort und legt sich wenig später in den Hof eines königlichen Palastes schlafen. Die Leute, die vorbeikommen, lesen seinen Gürtel und denken bei den sieben Getöteten an sieben Menschen und haltet in für einen Kriegshelden. Als der König davon erfährt, verspricht er ihm seine Tochter, wenn er das Land von den zwei Riesen befreit, die in seinem Königreich umher streifen. Das tapfere Schneiderlein macht sich auf den Weg und trifft auch sogleich auf die Riesen, welche unter einem Baum schlafen. Er setzt sich über sie in den Baum und bewirft erst den einen und dann den anderen abwechselnd mit Steinen. Die Riesen allerdings, denken, dass es jedes Mal der jeweils andere Riese sein muss. Dieses Verwechslungsspiel führt zu einer handfesten Prügelei, bei der sich die beiden Riesen töten. Nachdem der König das Schneiderlein noch in zwei weiteren Aufgaben unter Probe stellt und es diese ebenfalls besteht, bekommt das tapfere Schneiderlein die Tochter und das Königreich.
