About this listen

Letty Davenport, the tough-as-nails adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, takes on an undercover assignment that brings her across the country and into the crosshairs of a dangerous group of hackers.

Letty Davenport’s days working a desk job at are behind her. Her previous actions at a gunfight in Texas—and her incredible skills with firearms—draw the attention of several branches of the US government, and make her a perfect fit for even more dangerous work. The Department of Homeland Security and the NSA have tasked her with infiltrating a hacker group, known only as Ordinary People, that is intent on wreaking havoc. Letty and her reluctant partner from the NSA pose as free-spirited programmers for hire and embark on a cross country road trip to the group’s California headquarters.

While the two work to make inroads with Ordinary People and uncover their plans, they begin to suspect that the hackers are not their only enemy. Someone within their own circle may have betrayed them, and has ulterior motives that place their mission—and their lives—in grave danger.

Critic reviews

"A female-forward thriller that makes a strong case that smart, unflinching women should run the world." —Kirkus Reviews

"Sandford keeps his foot on the gas throughout, without stretching plausibility too far." —Publishers Weekly

“This is the second in author Sandford’s series featuring Letty Davenport, government agent and adopted daughter of Sandford’s series megastar Lucas Davenport. Both series show Sandford’s mastery of character and action....Readers may wonder why, with all this comedy, the tension has them clutching the arms of their chairs. That’s Sandford at work.” —Booklist

Still not quite right

This book is better than the first in that the narrator, Robert Petkoff, is an improvement over Richard Ferrone. I love Richard Ferrone, but he's the wrong voice for Letty. Petkoff is better, does a good job with accents, varying his voices, etc. but it is not enough to save the book. Letty comes off as flat. No sense of humor and you don't get any real feelings for her. Tacking on the bit with the boyfriend at the end is a poor save/step into the next book. Does she care about anything? She doesn't have the depth of Lucas Davenport or Virgil Flowers. Nothing funny, creative or emotional about her at all. Ok, she can kill. she is great with guns. There is no reason to like her or root for her. And why the heck don't you let a woman narrate it? I don't think I'll buy book 3. And I'm sad to say that.

liked it

it's not an early "Prey" novel, or a Flowers novel, but it kept me entertained.

I feel like it was a bit hurried towards the end.

I've listened to every single one of John Sandford's novels multiple times. This one feels somewhat rushed but a good story overall .

Sorry this was not so good

Help. Does the author need money that he put this book out. He created a good character in Letty but she went no where in this book. I would read the next just to see if he worked on the book but that would be it!

Not my favorite

I think Letty could be a great series but this didn't have great dialog like the other series. I would have liked to have listened to a female narrator voice Letty and the female characters. Robert Petkoff was good but I really think a female narrator would have been better. I wasn't really interested in all the descriptions of the different guns but that's my opinion. It had a timely theme but it was a little confusing to me.

So glad they got a new narrator for book 2

Very entertaining way better than book 1 however still missing the soul that Flowers or Lucas has. So very glad you chose a new narrator for this one

Wasting the character we’ve ‘watched’ grow uo

I’ve read all his books. This was disappointing. I hope he’ll make a change with the next book - give her room to develop into the interesting woman she can be while also being brilliant, funny, nerdy & skilled - not a cookie cutter copy of the typical male ‘smart, skilled operator/carbon copy of Lucas.

Love Lettie … but …

I own EVERY Sanford book . Knew Lettie’s original story. Her books are great, action packed and somewhat justified by the previous history & the “Father” references. Looking forward to the build of HER character. I know that will take time but it’s like all spin offs .. a journey. I’m ready to follow👍 Enjoyed both Lettie books
