About this listen

Katherine Rogers has everything a young woman could hope for in 1849 Scotland...except the freedom to make her own choices. The last thing she wants to do is to get married, and then, she meets James Spenser. Can there be any future together for the outspoken daughter of a railway owner and the charming young man working on the project?

This is the first book in the Railway Romance series. These books show how trains and the building of the railway tracks brought people together. Often people, who would never have met any other way...and the romances that crossed economic, class, and even cultural lines. If you ever have the chance, ride a train. Especially with someone you love.

Android listening to this historical romance

I always enjoy fiction that has an historical basis and this audio book was no exception . The characters were strong. The romance storyline was sweet. And the narrator had a sweet voice that told this story well. This story starts out in Scotland and ends up in America. The narrator did a great job switching between the dialects. My only criticism of the story was that there is a major turning point in it that is sort of hidden in chapter 23. I thought that this episode deserved a chapter of its own and needed to be fleshed out.

Follow your heart...

It's 1849 in Scotland and the first railway ferry is being built to cross the Firth of Forth. James is assigned the duty of escorting Katherine, the bosses daughter, Back and forth as she works on developing the promenade.

I enjoyed listening to the story unfold as we see their relationship blossom.

The narrator did a fantastic job with conveying the emotions and I also loved the accents.

Sweet and uncomplicated

Dare To Cross The Water by Lorri Moulton is a clear and uncomplicated romantic novella. It takes place in Scotland in the mid 19th century as they are building a ferry train.

Short story short, worker falls in love with bosses daughter and she reciprocates. The characters are sweet and very likable, there's a little drama but it's so tame it doesn't raise your blood pressure. I will say that for a novella there's a A LOT of dialogue, too much in my estimation. And the use of "aye" was excessive. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it.

The narrator was Siobhan Waring and she did a good job overall.

Will love prevail

This was a great book. The narrator was wonderful, as she brought you into the story. It is 1849 in Scotland, when we meet Katherine Rogers. She is of the privilege life, but doesn't have the freedom to make her own choices in life. She just wants to do her art and starts helping her Dad on a project. This is where she meets James Spencer, when he saves her life, from a cable. Katherine's Dad, decides to have James work with Katherine to keep her safe. He is of the working class and not suitable for Katherine. Their attraction grows, but as the project comes to an end, James will be leaving to sail to America for a better life. Will Katherine be on the ship with him.

Short, Sweet, and Enjoyable

This was a really easy listen. The story was interesting and engaging. The characters were very likable, except the ones that weren't supposed to be. This is not a rollercoaster ride, shocking, or even steamy listen. But, it is a fun, engaging story. Perfect for a relaxing day where you just want some engaging entertainment. The writing is good, and it's just a refreshing change.
Siobhan Waring has a beautifully lyrical voice that is a pleasure to listen to. Her characterizations and narration is really nice. She has a voice that is just a pleasure to listen to. And, she's engaging. I was offered this as an ARC and both author and narrator were new to me. And, I look forward to more from both.
