Bad narrator

I really did not like the narrator. Listened to this while doing simple chores and I had to rewind a lot because I kept zoning out.
While I understand this book is for beginners, I think one can easily find the same, if not more in-depth, introduction to Stoicism in a tiktok video.
I thank the author for the free review copy, but I just didn't think it's a good book.

Conflates Ideas … Narrator Mispronounces Key Word!

I've read and listened to a fair amount of books on stoicism, and I've never had one irk me quite as much as this one did! In terms of content, the book felt rather scanty. It had many chapters, but no chapter was very long, just skimming the surface of the topic. Also, the author seems to conflate contemporary self-help topics and stoicism, making the book feel like it's more about contemporary ideas than the Stoic ideals espoused by the Roman masters thousands of years ago. Even if the author just began each chapter with a Stoic quote showing the idea truly had roots in ancient Roman Stoicism, that would have given some gravitas to this somewhat flabby, wishy-washy admixture of self-help topics and Roman stoicism.

The absolute worst part of the book is the narrator. He did not know how to pronounce the word “stoicism”! I kid you not! I don't think he pronounced it correctly a single time in the entire nearly 2-hour audiobook. He said it as “stow-ism,” completely missing one part of the word. It's pronounced “stow-uh-sih-zm.” In an audiobook about the topic, this word is used frequently, as you may imagine, especially in certain chapters. At one point, I was yelling at my iPad, telling the narrator to pronounce the word correctly! Didn't the book’s author or anyone else listen to this before it was published on Audible? Somebody should have caught that this word was pronounced incorrectly all the way through the book. The narrator also mispronounced a few other words (the wrong form of “conflicts”), but nothing as egregious as saying the actual main topic of the audiobook incorrectly every time! Because of this and the content issues mentioned above, I do not feel like I can recommend this audiobook.
