Publisher's summary

Every father knows failure. It comes with the territory. One generation to the next, imperfect men chip away at God's original design for daddies, leaving a flawed pattern for their sons to follow. Overwhelmed by their failures, it's easy for fathers to feel they have blown it for good and can't redeem themselves.

In this book, Tim Bayly offers a frank and hope-filled path to overcoming the inherent failures of imperfect fathers - and to reclaiming manhood and dignity for the man called Daddy. Drawing from decades of his own journey as an imperfect son, father, and pastor, Bayly makes it clear there are no quick fixes. The road to recovery is paved with blood, sweat, and tears, but our savior walked this path before us.

Daddy Tried makes no apologies for being a book for men. Its subject is the male-only club of fatherhood. It takes the only perfect father as our guide. Bayly stares the sins of fathers past, present, and future squarely in the face and clears a path to overcoming them - a path that begins with faith in our heavenly father who tells us he knows our weaknesses.

One of the best books on fatherhood

It's short but it gets to the heart of it. Convicting and inspiring. I highly recommend.

A sorely needed book.

If you could sum up Daddy Tried in three words, what would they be?

hard, gracious, necessary.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Daddy Tried?

When Tim said, "each man will die surrounded by the fruit of his discipline."

What about Tim Bayly’s performance did you like?

Tim speaks with the heart of a father and pastor - he brings truths from God's word to bear on the heart, and shows us how we need them.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was in tears at several points. The father hunger and lack of discipline (love) that is so very present is clearly the fruit of our abandonment of God as our Heavenly Father, and of faith in his Son. God have mercy on this generation, and on me.

Cringy

Ugh, read by author...
Almost zero practical advice. Sooooo many boring little details about the authors childhood that have nothing to do with anything, just dull filler. This is really boring, awkward, and uninteresting. Also, it's about 90% Biblical theology, not a parenting book.
