Factual but dull

This is dry but I did finish it and got some good information out of it for my upcoming licensure exam.

This book is amazing.

This book is amazing. As a student in a graduate program for counseling, it is definitely no substitute for the actual DSM-5, but it is incredibly helpful!

Could be organized better

The organization of content could be a lot better. Content somewhat long-winded at times, but overall pretty good.

Not helpful

If you are looking for something other than a poor recitation of DSM/ICD codes, this is not a good choice.

Not an American based book

I'm writing this review before finishing the book because I hope to help out a fellow Audible listener. I'm not sure why, but the beginning of this book has a bunch of legal stuff that is related to Columbia, mental capacity, legal capacity, etc. So, do yourself a favor and skip ahead to Chapter 2 with 35 minutes and 59 seconds left. You aren't missing anything by skipping ahead. Trust me. It should start at ICD-10 (look at the PDF). I'm only going to continue listening because I was able to look at the PDF and see that the rest of the information was reliable and more related to the DSM-5. It was frustrating to have to listen to all of the Columbia-specific information in the beginning because I'm studying for the EPPP and I don't need to mix up my terms. I hope this helps!

I used this as a review for my licensing exam

Lovely" is clearly not the correct attribute for a book on the diagnosis of mental illness. But this book does come in very handy, both for the seasoned clinician who might need quick reminders and for younger colleagues, as well as the generally interested in listeners , who wants to get a comprehensive view into the otherwise complex labyrinth of mental diagnoses.

Not thorough

Did not give all chapters of the DSM-5, such as those chapters that cover somatic symptoms and disorders, gender dysphoria, and sexual dysfunction.

Insanely simplified is right!

This book gives you a quick overview of DSM V diagnosis. You do need the DSM V manual, however as this little book is “ insanely oversimplified “
