About this listen

Sixteen-year-old Liam Covington is the only one who sees colorful shadows following him around school. They're brightest whenever someone messes with him. That's why Liam lives by a short code: Keep a low profile, stay away from the colors, and don't talk to Kenna Berlin.

But today Kenna saved his life. And he just made enemies with the biggest jock in school. And worst of all, the strange conch shell he brought home from the dunes today is making the colors brighter.

Solid Fantasy for That In-Between Middle Grade and YA Audience

A very clever story about a seriously underrepresented mythological powerhouse. Outside of Aladdin, there really aren't many Jinn stories.
.
This story grabbed me from page 1. Rachel Huffmire has a brilliant way of hooking you on her story early on; I love that about her writing style.
.
You can tell a lot of research went into bringing this book into existence. It was easy to become completely invested in the characters and the story.
.
A solid fantasy book (hopefully, series) for that between middle grade and YA group!

Fun and engaging!

I loved Huffmire’s twists and turns in the story. It was a story that I have never heard or read before, and it was so fun to have a new type of fantasy genre come to life!

I also enjoyed the reader. Johal was able to capture the youth voice of a high schooler without being annoying.

I would say that this book would appeal to the younger side of the youth fiction genre (9-14 year olds) but older audiences will enjoy it too! (I’m 24, and found it fun, charming, and engaging) I would relate the reading and engagement level to the first two Harry Potter books.

Super fun, and excited to see where the next book will take the story! Looking forward to reading it as soon as it comes out!

Great Story!

I so so sooo wanted to love this audiobook, just for the story line and description alone. Because I’m really into books of magic, fantasy, and clean reads. Unfortunately the narrator made it a little hard for me to be pulled into the story. Because he seemed to read a little too fast. Not giving the listener time to think between every word. I do get that he was portraying the role of a teenage boy, and kids can talk fast at times. Nonetheless...I decided I STILL Love the story and will consider the paperback. Which I’m sure I will love also.

Such a fun concept!

I have two boys, one a freshman in high school and one just starting middle school. This book had them hooked from start to finish. It’s perfect for kids who enjoyed Percy Jackson, Wings of Fire, and Fablehaven.

Super Fun & Clean Realistic Fantasy

My 16 year old son read this too and he loved it! There aren't a lot of books about Jinn so this was really fun and a unique twist on what you think you know about them. This is set up for to be series and we can't wait to see where it goes in the next book. If you like fantasy and adventure then give this one a shot.

This is probably PG in terms of content. There's very little bad language, a touch of romance but no kissing, and the violence is not graphic. It's a great book for middle grade readers on up to adults.

The narrator did a great job although we did notice some lines/sentences that were repeated and not removed in final edit.

Loved it

This was a cute story. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. Gene's that help the outcome of things without anyone knowing. What a great idea.Although poor Liam has no idea why he can see them. His journey to find out is tough but the desire to understand makes him do it. This story will make you chuckle.

Fresh concept, great story!

Sixteen year old Liam is already struggling with normal teenager issues when he discovers that powerful magic is also affecting his life. In Granted, Rachel Huffmire introduces the reader to a unique world of Jinn (genies) living among humans and influencing them for mysterious purposes. The deeper Liam dives into the world of the Jinn, the higher the stakes become for him and those he holds dearest.

The mythological in the modern world is reminiscent of a Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson adventures while the emotional life of a teenager is potrayed as a masterfully as in J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books. Deeper themes of unseen forces and their influence on humanity evoke fantasy and Science Fiction author Orson Scott Card. Ultimately though, the realm of the Jinn introduced in Granted is fresh and original and Huffmire’s imaginative world building and storytelling keeps the reader engaged until the very end. Indeed, I was relieved to hear that a sequel is in the works as the potential for more adventure in this world is vast.

I will certainly recommend this to my 13 year old son but at 43 years of age, I enjoyed this immensely myself (I listened to the entire book on Audible in one session). Would highly recommend!
