Publisher's summary

Cozy Minimalist Home helps you go beyond décor trends to make your home beautiful, stylish, and comfortable on any budget.

Myquillyn Smith's first book, The Nesting Place, teaches us that our homes don't have to be perfect to be beautiful. But how can we apply that lesson to our actual, day-to-day design decisions?

Cozy Minimalist Home is the answer to that question. Writing for the hands-on woman who'd rather move her own furniture than hire a designer, Smith helps you think through every room in your house, one purposeful design decision at a time. With people, priorities, and purpose in mind, you can create a warm, inviting, and timeless home that transcends the latest trends and centers around your personal style.

You'll have the tools to create a home you're proud of in a way that honors your unique priorities, budget, and taste. And best of all, you can completely transform your home starting with furniture and décor that you already have!

In Cozy Minimalist Home, Smith helps you:

  • Recognize your role as the curator of your home who makes smart, style-impacting design choices
  • Know what to focus on and what not to worry about
  • Discover the real secret to finding your unique style
  • Find a sofa you won't hate tomorrow
  • Deconstruct each room and re-create it step by step
  • Create a pretty home with more style and less stuff
  • Make your home look the way you've always hoped so you can use it the way you've always dreamed
  • Fall in love with the space you've created

Discover how creating a cozy minimalist home goes beyond pretty and sets the stage for the true connection, relationship, and rest that you deserve.

Good for someone new to design/decorating

I felt like this was well written and I liked the reader’s voice. This would be a great book for someone as they are decorating a new home or for someone who isn’t very confident in their decorating abilities. It walks you through the correct order of steps involved in how to design a room. Within that, it talks about the benefits of things like long curtains, large rugs, large artwork, empty spaces, and explains how you should choose objects to decorate with. Again, if you’re new to decorating or designing the layout of a room/home, or haven’t fine-tuned your practice in this area, this is a good listen.

Practical tips

This book was very helpful to have a minimal and comfortable home by taking one room at a time.

Short on substance, but messaging was pretty good

I listened to this in about 1/2 day. I skipped through the chapters on decorating. I was looking for more on decluttering. I didn't need them. I like her last chapter on serving people and the beginning which made me feel connected to her, but the middle was lacking for me.

Just What I Needed!

I have read many audible books on minimalism. Okay, so now I feel lighter and free, but why don’t I love my space? What is off about my house?
This book really opened my eyes to interior decorating. I never thought about shapes, textures, balancing feminine with masculine, etc. And I never knew where to start! Well when you actually follow the step by step process and don’t get ahead of yourself, I found that I might not naturally have the gift for interior design, but willing to learn and listen I really improved my house!
I would not recommend this book as a beginners guide to minimalism. I couldn’t imagine trying to decorate my house before I got rid of all the stuff that didn’t spark joy! This book is more of what to do after that. I enjoyed it.

Just what I needed!

This book could have been written with my name inserted throughout, that's how much it helped me. Truly fantastic book!

The book I have been waiting for!

I lean toward minimalism, but didn't want the stark, unwelcoming atmosphere that total minimalism can create. This book is the perfect balance! My favorite part is that the focus is on people and not things. A wonderful, practical guide on how to create a cozy, minimalist home! Thank you Myquillyn!!

This Book Has Answered My Decor Questions Forever!

I didn't know what I wanted.
I haven't known what I wanted from my home since it was only my room as a teenager, much less as a young wife decorating my first place. I've learned so much about myself in the last few years of homemaking, but still could not figure out how to make my home match my vibe while being both purposeful and beautiful.
Myquillyn to the rescue! She not only gave me inspiration and purpose, but very practical tips on how to make each room feel intentional and cohesive.
I was apprehensive about moving into our new house and starting from scratch again until I listened to this book, and now I'm excited to make this new place into a beautiful, purposeful, and cozy home.

Great tips to achieve comfort

This is one of the first Audible books I ever purchased. I don't know why I kept putting off reading it, but I did. There are so many good suggestions to make your spaces warm, cozy, and inviting with what you already have or with minimal spending for additions. For those who enjoy and respect older items and think beyond "out with the old, in with the new" it is perfect and shows often rearranging and movement are all you need for improvement. I wish I had listened sooner.

Decent information

Something she said in one of the appendixes summarized the whole book, we want to create homes that work for us, not ones that make us work, or something like that… it makes a lot of sense. I like how she orders introducing things back into the room after it has been quieted… also makes a lot of sense.
